Default Can Trample damage be dodged?

I used about 10 LA Pangaea elite Minotaurs to fight an indie province of about 20 barbarians and my Minos got slaughtered like Goblins. I'm aware that Barbarians deal lots of damage, however the Minos didn't seem to be even able to hurt any barbarians. According to the manual, the damage is dependent on the size and armozr piercing. But I didn't see anything mentioned that this attack can be dodged. But against the barbarians it looked more like the Minos were throwing cotton balls. A barbarian with about 12 HP shouldn't be that hard to kill.

Actually, is trample an advantage or a disadvantage? I always thought it's an advantage, but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Trampling is more effective the bigger the size difference is. So size 3 minotaur vs size 2 barbarian is not so good. Then there's the fact that if barbarians get within swinging distance of something that does not have insane defense, it's going to HURT.

So the size DIFFERENCE is the key. I always thought it's an absolute value, with the exception that only smaller units can be trampled. But if human size is already too much for Minotaurs, then they are almost useless. It can't get much smaller than humans... Too bad, I always liked Minos!

Minotaurs are better against bigger units than against humans.

Most trample dammage can be dodged with high natural defense, and it's rather easy (the check being base* defense -adjusted by fatigue- against 10, not against your trampler's attack), but the victim always take 1hp minimal dammage (something very good against powers like twist fate and glamour).

Against ennemies failing the defense check, size is what matter (I think AP dmg = 8 + size difference x2, and not "8 + size x2" like said in the manual)

* I think repell, parry, and shield doesn't work, but items/spells increasing defense (cat charm etc) do. But I'm not sure...

Size difference affects how much the tramplers can trample, not the damage they deal.

Trample can be avoided by defense, but the trampled creature will still take one point of damage.

Do you mean size difference change the AP cost of trampling or something like that ? Do you know the exact formula for that ?

If size difference seem to matter according to battle replays (so I was thinking it was counted for dammage), there is nothing in the manual about it - it just says that size decide *who* you can trample, but I've found nothing about other effects... so according to it minotaurs would be good against humans, doing 14AP dmg- ?
