Default Graphics Issues

My appoligies if this has been hashed and rehashed.

I have a new Laptop with an Intel 945 GU/GM Chipset for graphics. It does support Open GL but has no dedicated Video RAM. The machine does have 1Gb of system RAM though.

I am running Windows VISTA and have upgraded to the latest video drivers for the Chipset.

Unfortunately when I start Dom 3 from the Please Wait screen...the landscape background partially loads and I don't even have access to the menu to change the game graphics.

If I shut EVERYTHING running in the background I can get the background to fully load but still no access to the menu (but the music plays nicely).

Does anyone know what the Open GL settings need to be (I can adjust these prior to loading the game).

Or am I simply screwed because Microsoft thinks VISTA is SOOOOO Coool!

The options --noglext and -x look most likely to help you. (I presume you know how to set command-line options? If Vista is anything like XP, right-click your Dominions 3 icon and select properties; edit the "target" field, which will be something like "c:\program files\dominions3\dom3.exe" so it says "c:\program files\dominions3\dom3.exe -x --noglext".)

Default Re: Graphics Issues

I think the switches have to go after the quote. So it would be
"c:\program files\dominions3\dom3.exe" -x --noglext

Thats because the quotes are only there to clarify the path to the dom.exe because the directory \program files\ has a space in it (stupid move MS, it messed up alot of stuff)

- Well, you are, of course, but hopefully there is a workaround. Though, I'd retrograde to say Win 2K Pro.
