Problem, can\'t load saved games!
Hello all.
Recently I loaned my copy of SEIV to a friend while I play BG2 & SPW@W v5.01
Anyway the problem he has is that he can't load any saved games. I have checked his installation and can find no problems.
We even deleted all SEIV related files/folders and did a 2nd new install.
Regardless of the patch(checked with V1.02, V1.19, V1.35), or what mods are being used, the game consistently crashes to the desktop as soon as you try and load a saved game.
The error generated is
"Error at address 00565829 (or 0055342E) in module SE4.EXE, Read @ address FFFFFFFF"
System details: Pentium 6X86L 166 MHz w/t 32 MB RAM, Operating system is WIN95 4.00.950B
Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Problem, can\'t load saved games!
The machine does meet the theoretical minimum system requirements, but just barely. The Version of Win 95 is pretty darn old too. The CPU designation has me a bit baffled. What the heck is a 6X86L? That does not sound like a real Pentium CPU. Does the machine actually have a Cyrix CPU?
What type of video card is in the machine and are the drivers up to date?
I think that [email protected] may be your best bet.

What the heck in a Pentimum 6x86l?? I probily is your system configuration is just one of those that just does not work couppled with the fact that your system is just barely up to running the game. But you probally should e-mail MM and maybe Aron will fix it in his next patch.

Re: Problem, can\'t load saved games!
Barely meets the minimum spec? Pshah. I've been running (multitasking, in fact) SEIV quite happily for months on a P133 (Win95b.)Before that it was working perfectly well with just a P90.
Just because a computer has a bigger number attached to it, that doesn't necessarily make it a better machine. The Wintel [BIG NUMBER] conspiracy strikes again...
Besides, SEIV is not a particularly processor heavy game. With no real time stuff to worry about I imagine you could get it running on a 486, if you could meet the minimum screenmode requirement. Just takes longer to process the turns, that's all.
</RANT>
As for this specific problem... could it be the savegame file? Try the same file on a known good installation of SEIV. Could be it got messed up in transfer. Also, try some different savegames, ther are a few kicking around this forum if you look.

I think 6x86L doesn't mean anything. It's just like in my old Cyrix 133 MHz 6x86-P166. The P166 means that its not 166 MHz but pretty close.

--- 100% useless post ---
AFAIK 6X86L is one of the old Cyrix CPUs. According to my M/B manual it's different from the older 6X86 since it requires dual voltage (3.3/2.8 V). I don't know anything more about it, sorry ;-)
