OT: Your United States Postal Service...
This is probably the most off-topic post I have ever made on this board, but this is hilarious and I have to share.
I don't want to tick off any of you that might work for the USPS, I know you all work hard and usually do a great job, but I've just received what has to be the worst mis-mailed letter in the history of letters.
As most of you know I live in Ohio. I don't like giving out my address, but for the purposes here let's say I live at 1220 My Street. I'm used to occasionally getting other people's mail. Usually it makes some sense. Stuff like 1220 Oak Street or 1220 Wood Lane. Streets near-by, and the street number and zip code are the same, so it's an understandable mistake.
Today folks I got another 1220 letter. Not just any 1220 letter though. This is for 1220 Another Street, Ellensburg Washington. Washington State folks. Washington-Freaking State. West till you hit ocean and north till you hit Canada Washington State. Two Thousand Two Hundred and Ninety-Four Miles from my house Washington state.
The letter was mailed from Yakima Washington to Ellensburg Washington, 45 miles. Via Ohio. Only off by 5000%! Close enough.
What kills me is not that it ended up in the wrong state, or the wrong town. But that somebody figured it belonged in my box. I guess I'm getting all the 1220 mail in North America now.

Letters a flat fee in the U.S.; 39 cents coast to coast.

Re: OT: Your United States Postal Service...
The whole tracking thing is just another overrated way to get your cash. In fact I dont even use the U.S.P.S. unless it is a totally unimportant letter. Now two little stories of my own, not as wild as Geos story but they both involve the whole tracking thingy.
First one: July this year one of my younger daughters electronic toys went nuts. It was still under warranty so I got my RMA and sent it certified and insured. To this day I can still go to the U.S.P.S. website and it will say the package is sitting at the local airport. I never received a delivery conformation but did get the replacement back in late August. If I wanted to be a real *$$ I could go and claim the amount it was insured for; but Im not, so I wont.
Second one: I sent a letter registered, international, priority express to a family member in Jamaica. Luckily it had nothing more important than a little paperwork (none of our personal info, just hers) and a check to help her out (its been canceled). I did all of this in August and to this day there is no sign of the letter. Once again the U.S.P.S. website says the item is sitting at the local airport waiting to depart.
So that is why I dont trust the U.S.P.S. anymore. And also as Geo said in his post; getting the mail of others is standard operating procedure.

No offense, but that's because New Zealand is so small

Re: OT: Your United States Postal Service...
Well, just for contrast, the Christmas package that my sister mailed on Thursday from Berks County, PA, arrived here in Pittsburgh today, which is probably a record. I was expecting it to show up next Tuesday.
It's fun to complain about the Post Office, but they move an incredible volume of mail, usually reliably, at a fairly reasonable price.

Re: OT: Your United States Postal Service...
Actually, I think that the USPS does a great job. Truly. I cannot remember the last time anything I sent was lost, or when I didn't receive something that was mailed.
I think that there are a lot of whiners here.
Sorry, just my opinion.
Now, here is a serious question for US members. Who would complain if home mail was delivered every other day instead of every day. I figure that woudl save roughly half on postal costs, and I wouldn't complain at all.
