SEV - Design problems with Weapon Platforms
Missiles require supply to fire, but the missile component doesn't hold supplies, nor can I add a supply component.
That in itself is a bug.
Question, if my planet had supplies, would the weapon platforms use them?
Why do planets say they have endless ordance, when that shouldn't be true.

WPs use the planet's stockpile.

Re: SEV - Design problems with Weapon Platforms
WP shouldn't be forced to use the planet's supply, because refueling ships can empty a planet's supply.
It may not be a bug, but it is a design issue.

Re: SEV - Design problems with Weapon Platforms
No, you don't need either supplies or ordnance on a weapons platform. It uses the planet's supplies and ordnance. I'm not sure if a WP would even get its supply or ordnance storage filled if it had any. You can test this and find out, I guess.
There are some problems with supplies/ordnance and ships, yes. You cannot LEAVE supplies or ordnance on a planet from a ship because of the automatic refill when leaving the sector. We have been trying to get this changed. Maybe the patch available soon after the game hits the shelves will have a new solution to this.
The best thing to do in the interim, if WPs do in fact get their supply and ordnanc capacity filled, might be to add an intrinsic supply storage amount to WP hulls.

Then there may need to be a auto option like the population reserve, for supplies and ordnance, or some way to designate a reserve of the supplies for planet use only.

Yes, we have requested just that. But like all suggestions, it's just one in a very big pile that MM has to sort through every day when deciding what to work on.

Re: SEV - Design problems with Weapon Platforms
I can say for sure that the missiles on WPs do fire when attacked. I can also say for sure that you need many more WPs to protect a planet than in SEIV. I think this is primarily because an early game frigate is 250Kt plus other junk that gives it 345 structure points. This is compared to 200Kt period in SEIV. Add to that that missiles are weak (level 5 does 80 damage) and the ballance clearly shifts to the attacker. In addition a large mount does not add range in the demo making a gun based platform not so effective either.
