Default Fleet Experience Question

I couldn't find anything about this in the FAQ..is there a minimum number of ships required to be in a fleet, for that fleet to gain experience? I've tried making small (2 or 3 ship) fleets, but they never gain any fleet experience.

Nope, there is no minimum number. A single ship fleet can acquire experience. However, if you're doing it through combat, fleet experience seems to take quite some time to accumulate. I'm not exactly sure how the mechanism is different than for ship experience, but it is, slightly.

Try putting those 2 or 3 ship fleets over a planet with the Fleet Training Facility, then you'll see some experience growing, up to 20%. Always the most efficient way to gain experience is through the facilities...at least until you hit the 20% cap.

Hope this helps!

I didn't think there was a minimum, but it's good to be sure. They're already at 20%, I'm trying to get them to 50%. I could swear though, that I used to get fleet experience after every fleet battle.

Fleet experience accumulates at something like 1/10th or 1/50th the rate of ship experience, and there is randomness to whether or not you get fleet experience after every ship kill. Huge fleet battles can result in just a few points of fleet experience gain.

Its been i awhile but if i remember right, you get a 25% chance to gain .1 experience points per ship killed in combat for fleet experience. its been about a year since i ran across the info. And as fyron said huge fleet battles can yield very small gains.

That depends on your definition of huge...
Battles among 700 ships and 3000 fighters or so can rack up two +50% legendary fleets by the time it is all over...

My God, I didn't even think such a thing was possible.

The most Ive seen a jump in a carrier battles mod is between a 200 -vs- 300 scrap where the surviving fleet bumped up 15% epxerience in one turn. I think that one of the drawbacks of the way experience is tallied is that you don't get any credit for missile kills, only direct fire weapons.
