The Flea Riding the Tiger (Zorg and Kawangi)
Pictures forthcoming...
In a nearby thread (Kawangi Safari) the question was asked - what's the smallest fleet that you can use to take out the dreaded Yellow Kawangi. My answer: the Zorg Fighter.
This tactic uses the teleportation abilities of the fighter and finds the fatal chink in the firing arcs of the Kawangi. The basics - teleport close to the Kawangi, get above it, and shoot at it from there.
The first step is to get as close as possible to the side of the Kawangi. You want to be pointing at the middle of the ship. Use the turn command so you're pointing the right way, and wait 15 seconds for the fighter's teleportation to kick in, then move. Your insertion point should be one pixel down from the ship - so slowly move the pointer down until you no longer see the ship pop-up for the Kawangi.
After you've teleported, you need to move above the Kawangi. To do this, you're not going to click on a space - instead, you use the 'fly this direction' that you get when you click on the edge of the combat map. So define the line from your ship to the middle of the Kawangi, then extrapolate that line to the edge of the map. If you click there, you will get an arrow pointing that direction from your little ship.
Just before you get to the middle of the ship, click 'stop' on the ship display in the upper right. Your fighter will quickly slow and stop.
Once you're over the Kawangi, use the 'turn' command to point in the direction of the Kawangi's travel.
After you've made the turn, use that 'edge of the map' flight command to fly towards the head of the Kawangi. Hit the 'stop' just before you get there.
If your ship hasn't started firing yet, you can use the 'fire' command. Stay there firing as the Kawangi travels forward under you.
When you get towards the back of the Kawangi, use the 'edge of the map' flight command again to get back to the front.
As they say - rinse and repeat!
The Kawangi has a Temporal Flux shield, which is huge but does not regenerate. Your plasma blaster will take it out, then start doing hull damage. It should take about 3-5 'move forwards' to end the Yellow Menace.
And this, Grasshopper, is the Flea Riding the Tiger.
