Default Need help finding map

I'm tinkering with a scenario concerning the "Kiowa Down" incident documented on the Military Channel. It occured in a town in Northern Iraq named Tal 'Afar (or Tall 'Afar). All my research to date has only provided satellite shots that show no detail. Anyone have any info on how to get a 'SP capable' map for this town?

Thanks in advance,
Beeg

Beeg,

Take a look at this link

http://iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/62519

Also check the attachement (Mosul map), Tal Afar is very similar (very close) to Mosul

cheers,
Pyros

Thanks Pyros,

The Mosul map may be the closest I get. After many Google searches it's the best I can find. Time to get my imagination out of mothballs, I guess

Beeg,

Check out the site I posted and every other link you find.
Even if you don't find a small topo, there is a small possibility that you will find photographs of the city that will help you to design the place.

I would also suggest that you search on Russian sites for maps, and Islamic and Turkish sites for photographs.
If you are lucky you will discover an aerial photo of the city.

cheers & good luck,
Pyros

p.s there aren't any mountains or hills in the area of Tal Afar

Try using "Google Earth" or NASA "WorldWind", both free hi-res satellite imagery packages.

http://earth.google.com/

http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/

Tall Afar, (Tal'Afar) is at:

36o 22' 37" N 42o 27' 20" E

(+36.37694 N +42.45556 E)

See attached view of central Tal'Afar (enough for a WinSPMBT streetmap)

The US airbase is off view to the South-SouthWest

Thank you gentlemen,

Between these sources I can make a decent map. I appreciate your help.
