Default A dilemma with naval craft

Many of the nations in the listings have no naval craft at all. I can understand that to a point. The landlocked nations might not (though I'm sure they have bodies of water where small naval craft can, might, and perhaps were used.

So one is forced to go to other nations. That is okay but then I cannot get the flag of that nation to change.

I've tried two ways. Choosing the Allied button of course does not work. Changing the flag in the main editor menu and then purchasing does not work either.

Example. For the Egypt side, I want a patrol boat. Egypt has no naval craft that I can see. I've scrolled through the dates but nothing there under misc.

So I change to a French flag. I find a patrol boat. I buy it. I revert the flad in the main editor screen to Egypt again, but it still shows a French ID flag.

No way around this?

Finally, the artwork in this game is astounding. The amount of work that Don Goodbrand has put into this really shows. He is a great artist. But the PBR under USMC for Nam does not really look like a PBR. It seems rather generic, which is in stark contrast to the details put into other vehicles and aircraft.

Now the torpedo boats I've seen and most of the other Riverine type naval craft look great. I'm wondering about the flat bow of the ASPB, but it might look that way. I thought it had more of a pointed bow.

And finally (again!), are there any larger naval craft in the game, such as a DD or DE? It might be nice for certain landing scenarios either for support fire or for bringing troops close into shore.

WB, I just tried it and it seemed worked. Do you have the CD or DL Version? There was a change to the CD Version that is not in the DL Version;
  • 19) Bugs with Allied units showing the wrong experience level and ID tag were fixed.
I set Egypt as the Player Nation, then bought 2 Patrol Boats as "Allied" and 2 as "Captured". The Allied boats displayed French flags and the Captured displayed Egyptian flags.

Yep - that problem with allies was fixed for the CD release, and will be in the version 2.0 patch upgrade for all users soon.

Don't buy the unit as "allied", swith to "captured" instead.
I've done it plenty, it should work, even in this version (sometimes there's a problem if you save the scenario before you buy the captured equipment - if you save it after you've done with the purchasing I have had no probs).

I tired surgesting this for inclusion of a FF sized unit in the UN OOB, I even created the graphics and UN OOB's. You just need to edit it's stats for the correct year/nation.

Go to this thread:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...b=5&o=&fpart=1

There are a few other bits in the UN OOB (Graphics by PlasmaKrab), for example have a look at the weapons list.

Feed-back is welcome

Also -- as for using Destroyers or even cruisers for fire support, I believe the US destroyers (they have 1) and cruisers (they have 2) both field 5 inch guns, which you *can* pick from the USMC OOB when you're on a beach assault mission (at least in modern years). Not sure who uses the 3 inch gun listed there but there is a 3 incher there too.

***Set them to captured Bill. Captured means they are now your parent nations equipment and will display the parent nations flag and use the parent nations moral and experience. When they are "Allies" they are.... well..... Allies . They are not the parent nations equipement they are somebody elses so the ID tag stays the original nation and so does the experience and moral

*****The "PBR* isn't mine. It is, I belive, work done by Zoltn Zajonskovsky and it is indeed a generic Icon meant to be used as an "all purpose" small ship Icon and was never created to specifically represent a "PBR".

The game was intended to be land based with air assets and landing craft for beach assualts. Naval operations were never it's reason for existing and were added grudgingly and we have no plans to expand that. I know some add on OOB's have larger ships be we arn't planning on following that lead. Things like PT boats and Monitors were as large as we intended to represent in the game

Good answers all. Thank you. I knew that wasn't you, Don! It is good work but it does not have the "DRG" touch.

I'll give this a try. I appreciate all the answers and the advice.

You're a good bunch of guys.
