Color depth weirdness
SE4 is the only game on my system that wants higher than 16-bit color. When I change from 32-bit back to 16-bit via Settings, when Win95 tries to restart, I get a DOS error message "Windows Protection Error You need to restart your computer." I have to hard boot to get the system up again. I sometimes get the same error changing to 32-bit, but not consistently.
I am running Version 1.19 with no mods but the patch. Demo Version 0.99 did not exhibit this behavior; I could change depths with a soft boot and no errors.

Re: Color depth weirdness
I use S.E.4 on 16 bit (can't be bothered to change really) can you post your specs for us to have a look at.

Re: Color depth weirdness
I'm on a three-year old Gateway G6 system.
Pentium II/233 Bezel Label
64M RAM
2.0 GB IDE HD with over 230M free
nVidia video card with 4M RAM, running STB Vision drivers/utilities
Windows95
I was hoping someone else had encountered this behavior before. The User Guide recommends 24-bit in Hardware Requirements, but Settings only gives me 16- and 32- at the high end of the choices.

Re: Color depth weirdness
Not really up on nvidia stuff (i use a matrox), that seems most likly to be the problem. Please check if you have the latest 'nvidia' (detonator i think their called) driver for your card (i'm sure when testing games with various cards the designers only use the latest genuine drivers) and if you have then try a previous release driver and see if you get the same results, also check out the nvidea web site forum to see if any issues with this game have been raised, some nice dude there may be of more help.

Re: Color depth weirdness
I've found the problem. It turns out the whole thing was caused by an outdated Version of Winsock.dll that I had installed to purge an I-Worm virus. Reinstalling Winsock.dll seems to have fixed it.
