Any Interest in an SEIV Skills competition?
I've got an idea for a PBW game that should prove entertaining. The game would use a customized map where each player would have to navigate through an obstical course of various things in an attempt to reach the Goal System. Once there, the object will be to colonize as many "Point Planets" as possible. Once colonizing begins, there will be a time limit imposed.
Sound good? Any Takers?

Re: Any Interest in an SEIV Skills competition?
at one time, i was going to run a 'space race' game. it was going to be on a map with a long path along many systems. each player would have their own starting system with a one-way warp pint into the first system for the race. the Last system would have a sphereworld or something to colonize, possibly protected by system sight obscuration.
there would have to be some amount of reasearch to win, and you would have to decided wither you want to start early and go slow, start late and go fast, fight, or what.
anyway, i never did it. maybe i will. or maybe you will. i still think its a cool idea.

It sounds interesting, Bearclaw. Perhaps a bit more information would help others get a better idea of how it would be ran and what to expect. Also, some sort of balance would be nice...in other words, all planets of the same type (atmos and colony type) so there would be no advantage there.

Most definetly it would be balanced. Everyone would have to be same atmosphere, no racial techs, etc. Other Attributes would be allowed though except for Ancient Race. The sort of things that would be tested would be:
1- research tree knowledge. Knowing what to research in order to achive your goal. Or at least to be prepared for all contingencies.
2- Navigation. To a limited degree, one's abiltiy to find the quickest route.
3- Combat. There would be a military obstical.
4- Speed. After all,this is a race.

Re: Any Interest in an SEIV Skills competition?
This might be interesting:
A long series of black hole systems (and/or super-damaging storm mazes) is on the path to the goal system.
Every third system or so, there is a tiny planet in a black hole system.
These planets are your safety nodes, and once you have them colonized, you can resupply there or build new ships in order to continue your journey.
Each race will have to fight to dominate a node long enough to build the facility (resupply or SY) and relay ships further down the chain.
Orbital defenses will not be possible due to the black hole pull, and even ships will have serious trouble staying in the right spot to help defend.

How do you get a planet in a black hole system? Wouldn't the planet get pulled into the black hole?
