I've seen the mages from the soul trap. Cool but not stellar. They seem to follow a normal AI script in that you might get a couple ok battle spells off but if no one is in range they may just cast fireshield and fry close units. I can't remember the full range of spells but I SEEM to remember some good spells coming out of them, blade wind, etc. For some reason I never checked their paths.
IMO they're best with a thug as they provide random fire support while the thug closes with the enemies. Neat, but not fantastic.
From a past post I believe the unit can still cast mind hunt even if feebleminded.
