That was no suicide. In fact he had been sieging my castle for some time but I decided I had a chance of breaking it with gifts from heaven spam and such.
He had some losses but not enough :(

otoh, it would be nice to make preaching better, maybe by moving its resolution later in the turn sequence.

That's a difficult question. To answer truthfully I guess we have to look at the when and the how.

this strat clearly takes some time to pull out. It's not as if you could turtle and summon tarts...

That was thoroughly tested by vfb in the post I linked and confirmed in my experience.
About overpower you can see it both way : preaching is so limited it wouldn't allow such a strat by himself. ...

Nice question and after further testing it seems nations suffer from heat/cold the same whether it's friendly or enemy dominion.

Which means Niefelheim (which I tested) gets a better income and...

Well, regarding the counters look at the 4th section of the guide.
I don't think the inquisitor bonus counts toward blood sacrifice but it sure helps to counter it.
