Re: Did Space Empires V kill Space Empires?
I still think going 3D was a stupid move by Aaron( or publisher?). Can't even imagine how much work he must have spent on that, and then bug-fixing it and probably having to re-implement every...

Re: Played SE IV long ago, and considering SE V.
True, SE4 did suffer some from some of that. However, it was far less noticeable in SE4; the AI moved its ships around more( and further, it seems to me; I've never seen an AI fleet in SE5 more than...

Re: Played SE IV long ago, and considering SE V.
Well, however one puts it the net result is the same; the AI is ill-equipped to handle the game.
Indeed though, Kwok has made some serious progress with the AI. However, I still have yet to lose...

Re: Played SE IV long ago, and considering SE V.
I don't know, I think there are few direct improvements over SEIV, and none of them major. And there are many dubious changes, and some that are simply bad( like the UI ). Stuff like the new "3D"...

There's nothing to prevent us from making biological( and thus 'living' ) computers and machines in the future, when we have...

Re: OT - Sentience
It just has to do with humans' inability to accept that we're not more than we appear. We want to be special. Religion is much to blame, with the focus on soul, spirit and other mystical subjects.

Personally I like migration much more than the notion of transport ships carrying millions of people. I guess some priority system and a 'Do not migrate to X' feature might be nice improvements...

I don't think the current computer system has what we need, since it's limited by its programming. While it might be possible to make an AI that writes new and changes old code all by itself, even...

Re: MOD: Quickest way to set up a game ?!
Yeah but you could modify in the files how many empires quick-start should create. You could also make it so that it only creates 2-3 systems when making a new map.

About average, I'd say. At least most episodes are worth watching, although there was a period with alot of really boring ones in a row.

I wouldn't in that case, because the gears in the box wouldn't be able to perceive. I would, however, argue that a computer could be considered at least partially aware( not self-aware though ), if...

I've always liked the 'Settlement' idea, where you just really drop facilities as such and turn the entire colony into one facility which produces more and more as it grows.
Perhaps as an addon to...

Re: Patch 1.71 Balance Concern
I realize that, but I'd rather there be some better way to fix it than setting up gameplay restrictions that we'll probably come to regret later.
Just give units an integer to keep their movement...

Re: Patch 1.71 Balance Concern
I don't know, I don't think there's any good reason to limit units to one launch per turn. Doesn't make much sense to me, and it's a bad idea to cripple one part of the game just to fix another.
