Mods and Crap
I was going to make this a poll but then I realized that it was an impossible task so I decided to just make a post.
We now have many many mods available to play that either give us a new style of game play, or enhance our game play. With all the differant mods, and what they do, would it not be a good idea to catagorize them? For example: AI Improvement (AI): TDM Mod (SAM) AI Campaign Enhancments and Game Additions (EGA): Fyrons FQM 1, 2 Deathstalkers Mount Mod Image mod Tampa Gamers sound Mod Ultimate Strategy Mod Altered Game Play Mods (AGPM): Proportions Pirates And Nomads Atrocities Star Trek Mod Babylon 5 Star Wars Many mods would have to be additionally classified as Stand Alone Mods (SAM). Some mods would have to be listed as AI Supported and Non AI Supported. Some would have requirments such as the Image Mod or such. I don't know what the rest of you think, or care, but I know I get a lot of emails asking me what the differant mods do. I always refer them to the Mod Thread, mod list site, or the page Fyron made for Malfador. (Preferably) Most people do not know what mod to get. I always tell them, and correct me if I am wrong, that the must have mods fall into the above catagories. The TDM mod adds great AI to stock races and a few others additional races. It is a stand alone mod. (SAM) The mods I use are the Image Mod, the FQM2 Delux, USM, Proportions, Mount Mod (modified to my tastes), and a combination of a few other mods. I often just play using my own AIOM, or All In One Mod. It consists of my new intel mod in addition to portions of other mods combined with new components and facilities that I have made. It uses good AI, and the best that all of the other mods have to offer. I wanted a mod that I would enjoy playing. I am sure most of you have simular favorite custom mods too. But new players do not have this luxury and if there was some basic way to tell them what mods they should use right off, and what mods to try later could be a big help. Just a thought. EDIT; Sorry SJ, thanks for the spelling help. I typed this up just before I went to bed. I did not proof it that well. My bad. [ April 10, 2003, 08:48: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |
Re: Mods and Crap
Are you referring to the imagmod image packs, or the imagemod mod? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
It seems that those could also be divided into "Total conVersions" and "Mix & Match mods" PS: Some typos; 1) Pirates and Nomads 2) Star Wars PPS: Does anyone have a copy of the imagemodmod? I can't seem to find mine http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif [ April 09, 2003, 19:21: Message edited by: Suicide Junkie ] |
Re: Mods and Crap
What would help me is to list them by which ones I can play solo and whether or not the mod has AI included. I still don't do PBM, and right now don't have the time even if I did want to play. Also, if people wouldn't mind sharing some of their mods like Atrocities was talking about, that would be great too.

Bah, Deja vu all over again.
I know I've done this at least twice, cause I know I was showing my dad how cool it was when you can eyeball the difference between a meson bLaster I and a meson bLaster IV in combat. |
Re: Mods and Crap
Attrocities, what do you mean by a "Stand Alone Mod"?

Re: Mods and Crap
The Encyclopedia Malfadorica {link} entry for mods {link} suggests four categories:
AIs/shipsets/races gameplay mods map mods graphic mods |
Re: Mods and Crap
Then those are the ones we should use then if any one is interested.

Thanks SJ, I appreciate the help. I was really tired when I typed this up, and it shows.
