Upgrade to Temporal Space Yard?

I recently researched temporal technology to obtain the temporal space yard. However, when I try to upgrade, nothing happens. Do I need to scrap my existing Space Yard 1's and then construct the new temporal yards?

It may be that I need Space Yard 3 before I can upgrade to Temporal. However, it seems it would be better to scrap the yard and rebuild to avoid the research costs, time, etc. Am I right?

Re: Upgrade to Temporal Space Yard?

You cannot upgrade fmom a standard yard to a temporal yard. They are different families. Even if you had SY3 you would have to scrap it to build a temporal yard.

This can of course be fixed by modding- just put them into the same family.

Geo: Thanks for the quick response. I'll start changing them over a few at a time....Greybeard

(I don't play temporal, but figured it would be a good idea to put those SY types in the same family so races which did use temporal could upgrade and/or start with that tech could use them.)

Or if you were that way inclined, you could probably use a variation on S_J's patented many-per-planet-upgradable-spaceyard thingies, so that you still have to scrap the old spaceyard to build the temporal one, but you can use the old spaceyard's construction rate to do the job.

I usually don't play temporal either, but got it as a replacement player in a PBW game. Actually, I enjoy taking replacement player spots and trying to improve the ranking, etc.

The question is:
Is this an intended limitation of the TSY, to prevent abuse, or is it a bug that can be corrected by modding?
If it is a bug we should insist that it is corrected in the Stock data files.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">But if you did that, you'd be able to put as many temporal spaceyards on one planet as you liked, with stacking construction rates!

Personally, I think it's good that they have to build the temporal yard from scratch. They'll make up for the delay with a vengeance once they get them built.

Also, if you want to put them in the same family you have to adjust the numerals of the temporal shipyard to 4, 5, and 6. Facilities upgrade to the highest numbered component in a family.

Note that this is different than components, which uses the family component that is lowest in the components.txt file (eg. normal and phased shields).
