British Lynx

Apparently the venerable Lynx is no more

http://forces.tv/73501001

It sounds like the Wildcat is replacing it.

Don't see the Wildcat in the game unless it's designated something else.

Sad to see the Lynx go though.

Re: British Lynx

I believe the Lynx Mk.10 in game is the Wildcat (previously known as Lynx Wildcat or future Lynx).

The Wildcat is the next generation of Lynx so effectivley the lynx is still with us. :)

Re: British Lynx

This taken from the below ref., sounds like it's the LYNX 10 in the game but, designated as the AW 159 in this ref.

"AW159 Future Lynx helicopter

In March 2005, the UK Ministry of Defense selected a version of Super Lynx 300, known as Future Lynx, as the preferred option to replace the UK Army’s Mk 7 and Mk 9 Lynx helicopters and Royal Navy Lynx HAS.3 and HMA.8. helicopters. A contract for 70 (plus ten options) Future Lynx helicopters was awarded in June 2006, 40 for the Army and 30 for the Navy. First of the Future Lynx, also known as AW159 Lynx, was completed in November 2009, initial deliveries were in 2011 and the helicopter will enter into service in 2014 with the British Army and 2015 with the Royal Navy."

Hope this helps with background info.

Re: British Lynx

Not exactly - it's only the Mk7 that's gone;the Mk9 remains in service.

Re: British Lynx

To ease the confusion, until Don adds his version of the icon and pic into the game, I have upped the .bmp files for the aircraft, seperate BERP rotor and the picture .lbm in my icons thread HERE

Re: British Lynx

The only problem is.......that's the RN version, The Army version, the one we are concerned with, doesn't carry the heavy armament that's what the Apache is for but I added this one to the files just in case they change their minds...........

Re: British Lynx

Wildcat is a updated Lynx (and a huge waste of money it is too).

RN Wildcat seems to get more armament every day...

Re: British Lynx

The army one seems only to be an ISTAR asset, with the ability to carry a few troops if you want to risk losing all the expensive gubbins for listening to enemy mobile phones etc.

In other words, a light helo for battlefield/arty observation and recce - the role of the old Gazelles.

A small number (8?) are being bought as special forces assault models. So probably have most of the secret squirrel EW gear not fitted. (Manufacturer to MOD - "Cost to take the EW kit out before we even fitted it, that will be 3 squillion quid to you, guv. Paperwork needs changing doncha know.:smirk:").

Apart from these 8, there seems to be no plans for a light utility version, and the only weapons carrying variant is the naval one. The only lift helos will be the Chinooks and 101s.

Armed army helicoptering is for the Apaches only it seems, now.
