Tigers

I suspect Tigers, at least the later ones, and 15cm frontal protection. I have no evidence for this.

Also, I believe Tiger II's hull protection to be 18-19cm, 120mm thick, sloped at 50 degrees. This would match with the forntal turret protection, at 18cm. This would enable Tiger II to advance on and destroy targets capable of dealing out less than 18cm penetration.

Neither do I have references for this.

Re: Tigers

Also, what's roughly 3 inches sloped at say, 56 degrees for later Sherman models? This would protect these against 75's, even the Panthers gun, to an extent.

Not discovered Armourcalc in your game installation folder? - just enter thickness and slope in the utility.

Tiger 1 armour has been discussed here way long ago - try searching the forums. You may also want to look at the tanknet.com forums if you just have a "feeling" and no references.

If all you've got is

" I have no evidence for this."

and/or

"Neither do I have references for this."

and/or

<!-- / message -->"what's roughly 3 inches"

Don't bother posting here .........and "later Sherman models" didn't have " roughly 3 inches " of armour on the front hull..... they had 2

Well somethings people need to take the time to do around here is look first post second. You will find everything you need here and more from this among many I found. This site is considered in the defense industry one of the best in the tanks they cover to the point that in the opinion of Defense Industry Daily (DID) THEY consider this site to be one of the best internet sources on the whole LEOPARD MBT series. All his references are listed at the bottom much like DID (And other references I use do as well.)lists their source references. Mr. Jentz is considered a well respected author of this subject. Enjoy the read it even has many pictures, diagrams and tables of interest are the penetration rates against it's opponents. If you need more I'll be happy to assist. ;)

As a bonus another worthwhile site I've used in the past...

Not sure why your bothering Pat this guy just makes assumptions things should work this way with no regard to real life.
Same principle as we all drive 200mph cars that can stop on a dime & are super safe because that's what would be nice.
Forget the 1000s of hours getting this game right he wants "Turrets World" with no basis on reality

A fact is a fact, just as a cold one is mine.

A tank is protected against the threats it attacks, in order to perform it's role, that of a Tank.

From it's protection, the tank can deliver fire... and there is the Tank...

Re: Tigers

15cm frontal armour for a tiger seems right,AFIRC,but keep in mind the angles of fire and if it's a side or rear hit, tigers were much more vunerable on side and rear side turret hits.
They are not invincible, just a platoon of stuarts can take a lone tiger out easily on favorable ground.

While Tigers for sure were not invincible, a platoon of M3/M5 Stuart light tanks would have great difficulty taking out a Tiger even on favorable ground. Basically they would have to go for mobility kill by shooting at the tracks and simultaneously close to point blank range behind the Tiger. The Tiger can easily take out the Stuarts one by one if they stop or even slow down.

My money would be on the Tiger. The 37mm gun of the Stuart is simply too weak.

Re: Tigers

A platoon of Stuarts, given 75's could take out a Tiger up close. One could even change the 30 cal AAMG to a 50. :D
