No Sound
Greetings All,
After a 2 year absence, I installed WinSPMBT (and WinSPWW2) on my new computer to give it another go. Patched the CD version through version 6 and installed it to C:\Shrapnel Games\WinSPMBT as suggested to avoid Windows 7 issues. Everything works great except there is no sound, so I'm looking for some help here if that's okay. I've ensured my Preferences have the sound volume turned up and that the Battle Fx and Sound Fx buttons are On. I'm thinking there might be a general sound setting that I've mis-adjusted somehow but if that's it, I can't find it. I'm running a Windows Home Premium x64 SP1 build 7601 system. Sound is on board the Gigabyte S-Series MA74GM-S2 mother board. Other program and system sounds work fine. I can provide additional system information if that is needed but will stop here for now just in case this is something very simple. Thank you very much for any recommendations. Al |
Re: No Sound
1) PC general - are the speakers attached? (check the plugs are pushed in)
2) PC general - is the sound muted or minimised to 0 in the control panel?. - If there is a volume dial on the speakers - check those too. - test the above with one of the windows supplied sound files Game: 3) Go into game data/sounds and double click on various sound files, once 1&2 are sorted - do these play? (if not - there is a problem with the data) 4) If there are no sounds, or the sounds are only the old MP3 (which were retired since some folks had problems with bad CODECS) then you missed a patch (or installed it somewhere else) with the newer (older) WAV format.. 5) open sounds.ini and ensure it's in the format Quote:
(The sounds play fine on my windows 7 laptop BTW - checked that then silenced them as I am a "no sound" type) |

Thanks for your suggestions! I really appreciate the help. I'll keep trouble shooting on my end but I'm at a loss as what to do next. Any additional insights from anyone would be welcomed. Thanks! Al |
Re: No Sound
Checking that your sound kit has the latest drivers may well be of help. Some folk have previously reported that as a windows 7 issue I seem to recall - something to do with Microsoft Directplay (which is what the sound system uses). Updated with the latest drivers (written for 7) and it went away.
