A funny opponent
I won't give his name, it doesn't matter, but I will post what took place that I find very funny.
We started a PBEM game, our first. By the third round he had already managed to send me the wrong files three times. The last time he decided that we should start again because the latest error of his allowed me to play my turn again. That's fine, but when I told him to be more careful (2 times I did that, one time before the last turn lol, he got angry and CAPS LOCKED me how I didn't have to say it again. (although I did lol) We went ahead to start a new game and in the first or second turn he tol me he bought a type of unit we had agreed not to (after his suggestion) and that we should start again to make it fair or else it would be unfair because either he couldn't use them or I would have to not use a certain type of my units. I replied, Quote:
he then replied Quote:
to which I said Quote:

Re: A funny opponent
Sounds like he was a complete beginner.
PBEM can be quite confusing at first. Then when things weren't working out, he may have got frustrated and you happened to be in his line of fire :D Wdll, if you're not a member already, check out The Blitz wargaming club. It's usually easy to find a SP game, and there's plenty of decent guys over there. I've never had a problem with a Blitz opponent. http://www.theblitz.org/message_boar...lay.php?fid=14 cheers, Cross |
Re: A funny opponent
Thanks Cross but I will be busy this month so I might as well wait till next month before I start another new game. I currently have only 1 PBEM Campaign game which is ok.

Re: A funny opponent
I think you have the right attitude about this tho.
As annoying as such things can be it's far better to laugh at them then anything else. |

Re: A funny opponent
I vaguely remember my first PBEM game. I was very unsure about what I was doing and I didn’t even know about the green playback button until my opponent pointed it out to me. I know ... I should read the manual.
I haven’t played a PBEM game for many years now. I found that most of my opponents were less than reliable or overly suspicious. A couple of them abandoned games and ended contact after only a few turns. One opponent accused me of cheating after an unlikely shot destroyed one of his tanks. Yet another implied that I must have cheated when my Iranians defeated his Americans. I only had one good regular opponent. We had several great games - but then he broke contact after he set up a large game that I did not have time to play. I have stuck to playing the AI ever since. |
Re: A funny opponent
Redcoat,
You'll be able to find reliable PBEM opponents in all the established wargaming sites. Try again - you should do fine. |

Sorry to hear about your unusual string of bad luck! John is right. Joining a club like the Blitz or World at War (link under Johns sig.) makes deadbeat opponents a rare thing. cheers, Cross |
Re: A funny opponent
John & Cross,
thanks for your messages. I may take your advice when I have enough free time to be a reliable PBEM opponent myself. I’d have to start in a ‘newbie’ league. I may have won my early games, but I wouldn’t last ten turns against any of the veterans in this forum. :D Cheers, redcoat2 |
