bad neighbour error
Whats with the "bad neighbour" error when i make a new sp game? Did a search, and nothing showed, so was wondering why this happens.

Re: bad neighbour error
More details, please. What map, what number of provinces, what game parameters, have you modified the map file etc etc?
I have never seen that error myself, but I expect it could be caused if you have a command in the map file that specifies a neighbor with a province number greater than what is on the map. For example, if the map has 100 provinces and you had something like #neighbour 80 101 which would make province #80 border province #101 (which does not exist). That would presumably cause the error. In any case, it is generally advised to give detailed, accurate information when asking for help with a specific problem, because otherwise you will get no answers. Vague reports with no detail in them will get you nowhere. |
Re: bad neighbour error
Usually any map, but for this example it was the alexander map, 5 random ai, and 1 human. More than enough provinces. When i use a map that has pre-set starting sites, there is np. Random placement of kingdoms usually gives me this error, and not all the time.

Re: bad neighbour error
There are 4 different versions of the map file that come with the current download of Alexander and (unless I missed something) they all contain either #start or #specstart commands. I started a few games and had no errors occur with the one that I tried.
If you are getting this error on all of your maps, you might want to try a reinstall and then patch the new install to the latest version. If that fails, I would recommend contacting Shrapnel support. |
Re: bad neighbour error
I've used the map for 4 or 5 different games without a problem either.

Re: bad neighbour error
The alexander map was only an example (btw, not all of them came with #start or #specstart commands). Even on random maps I "sometimes" get the error. I have seen one post about this error many weeks ago, at that time it was in a sub forum, not a post on its own. I was just wondering if any had a way around this, as it doesn't happen all the time. However, it is annoying when it does happen.
