How do I......
 
1. Create national spells that mimic Unholy power etc.
I copied spells, gave them a new name. Won't show up on spell list.

2. Do a battle summon - such as the Yomi Generals do, summoning 3 wolves in a battle.

Also, can these be done by units, not commanders?

Look in the Modding toiols thread for the link to DrPraetorious's spell modding guide. Lots of good stuff there.

I've been reading it. Not making a lot of headway, on those issues.

These may be rudimentary questions:
1. Where can I find the illwinter modding guide?

2. It used to be you there was a way in game to find out what an item # was.

3. Previous questions still - in other words - how do I code a #batsum?

Try Edi's reorganized modding guide, available from his signature. It has the same stuff as the Illwinter guide (in your \dominions 3\doc\), but better organized.

Press Shift+i when viewing item, spell or unit to get it's ID.

And for battle summons, #onebattlespell is one way to do it. There might be others.

yeah, I tried using #onebattlespell.. with howl.
Couldn't get it to work...

If you use custom spells, you have to use the spell ID. If you use vanilla spells, you can use name or ID. While it's possible to use custom spells, their ID may change depending on which mods you have enabled, and thus should be either circumvented or avoided.

#onebattlespell "Howl" is the easy way.

Dr Praetorious' spell list also lists interesting spells like "10 wolves" (53), "4 lions" (52) or "3 wolves" (65). Use one of these to summon the wolves.
