OT: Computer Question
Does anyone know how to disable the automatic rebooting service in Windows 2K? A tech guy came and worked on our servers and he enabled this and made it so our servers reboot every week and we do not need/want this option. I have looked through every possible screen and program on the machine and cannot find it. I have googled and cannot seem to find it there either. So if someone could please instruct me as to how to do this I would appreciate it.
Thanks! |
Re: OT: Computer Question
You've checked the task scheduler in your tray, I presume?

Re: OT: Computer Question
Is it maybe a bat file as a Scheduled Task?
OR... Do you have the Resource Kit installed? Many times they're scheduled using a DOS prompt and the AT scheduler. Do a lookup on MS's knowledgebase for the resource kit and AT commands. At least that's where I'd look. |

Also there are not .bat files on the system to do this. I will check out the resource kit. |
Re: OT: Computer Question
1) Faulty windows. Huge uptimes are not intrinsical to non-server versions of windows (win 2000 pro or XP). Reinstall.
2) Disable Task Scheduling service. 3) Look in autorun folders and registry keys for small scripts (.js or .vbs). 4) Virus or spyware. 5) Try to limit you system & app logs (Administration/Event Viewer). Sometimes it helps. |

Re: OT: Computer Question
Wouldn't you know it...The one place I didn't look, there it was. The tech guy set it up using APC Powerchute software, our backup systems.
Lesson to be learned for me: Never leave a stone unturned. |
