Semi OT: Dominions II process in Windows

I would like to set the priority level of the Dominions process to a lower level than all other processes, as Dominions seems to take priority over all my other programs, which is fairly annoying if I want to keep Dominions running while sending turn files.

Is there a way to lower the priority of Dominions by default? I know it can be done by hand (when going into the Task Manager), but that would have to be done every single time I launch Dominions. Is it possible to make this automatic, or should I get used to often meddling with processes in the Task Manager?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

What's you machine's specs, and which version of WinDoze are you using?

I've run it on a P2/400 with W2K, and as soon as I minimized it ("_" button), CPU and RAM usage dropped considerably and usage of other progs wasn't affected at all.

With a C4/1500 or a Duron 1800 this isn't even necessary ?!

Yes, the key is to not just tab out of it (I assume you run it windowed) but to minimize it "properly" as Arralen said.

I think what you're asking is about setting a "Task Priority" on execution. You will need to use the "start" command to execute dom2.

Start has a sophisticated set of options so I suggest you view it's help documentation by typing "start /?" at a command prompt. Here is an example of its use:

START "Dom2" /LOW /Dc:\Progra~1\dominions2 dom2.exe -w

Note that I have had to use tilde (~) notation to abbreviate the program directory--START does not like spaces. "Dom2" is the window name. LOW is, of course, the task priority.

Update:

You don't have to actually type this command in every time, just determine the command you want to run (or use the example) and Paste it into the "Target" entry in your dominions 2 shortcut.

Well, it looks like minimising the game does solve the problem, at least when the game isn't busy (running a turn or opening a turn).

Thanks Verjigorm for your answer: this is indeed what I wanted, and it seems to be working perfectly.
