Undead Mages?
Do the Undead, Ashen/Soulgate have any mages i am not aware of? It seems that all their ritual based units are priests, which would make it redundant to have schools of magic other than death except of course for your pretender who sees little action on the front lines. A mage would have access to all researched spells so short of using a combat pretender is there another solution? Thanks in advance for any information http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .

Re: Undead Mages?
Well, summon spectre would be one.. i forget exactly what they get, but it's a point in death, and two others.
Tartarian Gate sometimes gets you mages (eg, a non-feebleminded hero tartarian cyclops gets 4 earth). At a stretch, you could always get other non-undead mages (through recruiting or summoning with pretender). If you want them to be undead then there's empowering 2 points of death (or 1 + item) and then twiceborn, then go die in your domain to come back as an undead. Pretty sure they keep their old magic abilities. Those are the ones I know of off the top of my head, might be others I've not considered. edit: this assumes I understood what you were asking - was it for undead that have magic other than death? Or just undead that have magic but not holy/unholy? If the latter there's various - wraith lord, revenant and lich for example. [ December 21, 2003, 22:55: Message edited by: Breschau ] |
Re: Undead Mages?
Summon Spectator is a low level mage.
Summon Dusk Elder is the 3Death 1Random mage. For 20 Death Gems. Outside of those themes the better Death mages is Summon Mound Fiend is a decent Death Mage outside of Ermor. [ December 21, 2003, 23:33: Message edited by: Zen ] |
Re: Undead Mages?
Yes, i was looking for mages with magic other than undead http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . Thanks guys, i'll try out your suggestions...i would love to have a death/fire mage, the Dusk Elder sounds like i may have a shot http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif . My God! I love this game, at 41 years old i don't get too excited with the latest so-called turn-based fantasy games but this game makes me feel like a kid again...I can go all night! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Undead Mages?
The Dusk Elder has a good chance of getting 1 Fire. So they can summon those tastey Banebow skelingtons http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
You can also try a spectre that has I think 3 Random picks or maybe 2. |

Reanimate Archers
2 death, 1 fire Enchantment level 6 Creates 10 (i think) skeleton archers whose arrows are alight with banefire. |
Re: Undead Mages?
Death 9, Fire 4? Yowza! You can summon Anthrax, the Banefire Lord with that if memory serves. It's a little overkill for Reanimate Archers, since that spell doesn't scale in effect with level (it's 10 archers regardless of caster power).
With that much Death, consider the Wight summons: it's costly to research, but it gets you *20* Wights, which are basically more powerful lictors: intelligent, well-armored, decent-MR, undead troops with cold aura and bane blades. They're not Ethereal, but you can't have everything... Wailing Ladies are possibly better 1-for-1 (ethereal, stealthy, attack hits an entire square, attack's damage is "make an MR check or DIE", scary; just needs Mass Protection to be cast) but harder to mass-produce since each cast nets you only 1. Pale Riders summons longdead cavalry. Not too impressive units individually (although they're fast, which is good, and faster with Power of the Sepulchre), but the summons is definitely bulk and increases with higher death magic. Heck, with Death 9, cast Well of Misery and use that to fuel an Utterdark. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Utterdark is a lovely spell if you can survive the hatred of just about everyone else... |
