EDIT-Please Read!: Now that I've got all the initial art for the recruits, commanders, and most of the summons done, and have most of the stats worked out for this nation, and it's nearly ready to play, I'm just gonna go ahead and finish it myself. So it's officially no longer a "Placeholder Nation". Which means it's no longer available for anybody else to take over-any more than anybody else's mod, anyway. Disadvantages: No cheap mages, no good researchers, limited paths (no access or good path to access for Water/Astral, limited access to Fire, Air, Death). Yeah...I'm going to use your freedomainhosting site, Sombre, I haven't forgotten about it, I just haven't gotten around to it quite yet. I'm still working on getting all the units actually drawn-and my means to display them has absolutely improved a thousand percent, now that I know a little bit about what I'm doing. :) You should still be able to see all the pics in high resolution at the bottom-I update them roughly the same as the big picture.

Your mod seems really nice, the african myths are really under exploited in dom 3 (and in other games too, but dom is all about myths).

Thanks! I hope you like it! I'm aiming for a release within the next three weeks, depending on whether I can get some help compiling a .DM file, but at this point-aside from combat sprites-the vast majority of the work is done.
When it is, I'd very much appreciate any and all feedback on how it looks, how it works, balancing issues, etc. I agree that there's a huge body of African folklore out there for the grabbing. My fondest wish is that this mod will get people interested in learning more about Africa--I certainly have, and I expect I'll continue, considering that I've got atleast 2 more mods planned (including a MA of this one), with African themes. Nubia will be next, but I'd really like to see, if not eventually do, a Congo theme (Pygmies and dinosaurs!) and one about Zanzibar (Islamic Africa-which might end up as the LA of Aksum, some day). |

Thanks, Foodstamp-considering the high quality of (and my appreciation of) your mods, especially Haida Gwaii, that means a lot!
That big one, the Opaani, is probably going to get a little makeover when I get around to it, but yes-I'm very proud of it :) It took roughly 6 hours to get it done, and that's considering that I borrowed some of the image from the Internet. Eventually, I'm going to replace the borrowed parts with original art, and retouch the archers in the howdah-basket-there are several units I want to redo, but I'm holding off on that until everything is playable. So right now, I'm working on heroes. I've got Queen Makeda finished (I'm separating her from Queen Bilqis, even though they're basically different names for the same person. I'm making "Makeda" the daughter of the original Queen of Sheba-Raamah is, therefore, Makeda's grandfather.), and I'm hopefully getting some help setting up a .DM file. Once the hero art is done, and I've added any Pretenders (I'm not 100% sure Aksum's going to get a National Pretender, none have come to mind as of yet), the mod will essentially be done-ready to be turned into a downloadable .DM file and played. |

I found a reference to the "Lion of Judah" being an Ethiopian cultural icon, and I can't remember if their are any lion Pretenders in the game already. I'm pretty certain their aren't any fire and earth based lion Pretenders, so this one I'm hoping should be unique. If it's not, please let me know. |

I think there is a lion headed pretender, but he is egyptian based, and not interesting at all (stats wise). Furthermore, he is not available for many factions.

That one I'm aware of. The Lion of Judah is an actual lion. I know there's bulls in the game, but I can't remember any lions as such.

I'm very proud to announce that all the initial unit artwork is complete for Aksum, and the stats for the units are also more or less done (most of the retouching is complete, and all that's left are combat sprites, banner, etc.), and as balanced as I can make them, without actually testing them out.
I'm also happy to announce that I have the tools necessary to write up a .DM file for this Nation-thanks to Humakty!. Still no way for me to package the units in an efficient zip-format, but I'll get it as close to playable as I can from here. |

I've started and made a little progress with the .DM file, but I can't promise that it's going to be done even as a rough draft, this weekend, since I seem to be coming down with a bug. I haven't been able to sleep in almost 24 hours, and I don't have any idea how energetic I'm going to feel after I do get some sleep.

Thanks to Sombre's advice, the main unit picture is now at full resolution. I'm still working on the .DM file, but I'm making progress, and now everyone can see what the units themselves look like, without fooling around with thumbnails. |

Honey, I don't know if I'm just "trolling" again, but it's quite hard for others to give much advice on balancing or any other good feedback to you without a .dm mod file. Why don't you just release a preliminary version of your in-development mod nation, no matter how incomplete it may be, so that others may playtest and you'll be able to update the nation mod with suggestions from them?
I didn't know where exactly to place this post among your 13 other threads here about announced mod nations, so I just randomly chose this one. |

Ich, I certainly don't mind you posting in my threads, as long as you avoid random, nonsensical digs against what I'm doing.
I intend to post .DM files once I have a computer that'll run the game. Until then, making these mods available for playtesting wouldn't be very productive anyway, because I won't be able to playtest them. If I can't do that, I can't react to any suggestions that are based on playtesting, so things would get lost, would be misunderstood, would be just a plain hassle--both for the person who is putting in the work and offering the advice, and for myself as well. It's just not worth it. The good news is that I hope to have a computer by the end of the year, so maybe we'll all get a Christmas present, together. Can't guarantee it though. Sombre, you're probably right. I'm going to have to do a lot of sprite correction, and that's obviously one of the units I'll be looking at. New (improved?) graphic on the Razorwife, by the way. I hope you don't consider my talk as nonsense. You're one of the most prolific nation modders around here. The problem is just that very few of those nations ever see to make it to a release. I've counted and I see 15 mod nation threads created by you here, out of which a total of one downloadable mod emerged, back in 2007.
That's not an accusation, since you not only have stats and story pretty well laid out for those nations, you sometimes even have the graphics ready. That tiny little extra, actually typing all those stats into a .dm file and bundling it up with the graphics, is only what is missing. If you somehow can't playtest the mods yourself, then you could look for somebody who would do it for you - just to check if loading the mod ends in "Nagot gick fel" for some reason or if they load at all. I just hope that this step will eventually be taken instead of mouth-watering the community any more by abandoning a nation which is nearly complete and starting three other new projects instead. I'm looking forward to the upcoming mods. There'll even be enough to start a whole MP game consisting exclusively of those mod nations then. |

I don't think that HoneyBadger was too harsh or that his thoughts are unreasonable if he truly believes in them, but he'll have to put up with mild criticism when always holding the carrot stick in front of the donkey but never putting out, so to speak.

I'll be perfectly honest here.
I'm not out to alienate anyone. I like to think that I'm a friendly person. I'm also not running for office, though, either. I don't have to share space in the same workplace, family, house, bed, or grave (probably), as a single one of you. With respect, politeness, and courtesy, I'm making these mods for one person only, and that person is myself. If I can make these mods better for everyone, without making them worse for me, I'm all for that, but the goal here is to make them how I think they should be, to the best of my ability. I like to think that attitude makes for a better mod in the end, and I like to believe that what I'm doing is (insofar as this is a game) of a certain (however dubious) importance, atleast insofar as the furtherance of my own education is concerned. Whether that attitude is justifiable or not, however, I'm clearly serving myself here, all lofty purposes/affectations/delusions aside. I would like very much--and I hope very much--that others will appreciate and take an active interest in what I'm doing. If anyone does, I welcome you, your presence, your ideas, your input, whatever you have to offer, so long as it impacts my mods/myself, in a positive way. If they don't though, or if I somehow offend anyone, it won't change my plans, my mods, or my personality. I like who I am and I like what I'm doing. That's enough for me. I can do it and go it alone if I must. I'd like it if we can all get along with one another in a positive way. I'd like these boards to be a friendly, welcoming environment. And as long as the end result is one that I'm fully satisfied with, I'd welcome all manner of outside influence into my mods. If any of that is somehow impossible, though--and I understand that I share in the responsibility--once again I won't change my plans, my mods, or my personality. |
