best summonable astral mage
 

Looking for opinions on what the best summonable astral mage is. Would prefer to avoid golems, as I can't get astral+earth without empowerment, although I may just take that route anyway....

Seraphs. Nowhere near cost effective for an astral mage, but I had to say it.

Spectres(Death), Lamia Queens(Nature and Death iirc) and Tartarians(High Death) can all get astral from randoms. Tartarians are probably the best of the three and theres even a tartarian who only gets sorcery randoms, iirc its the female titan. Other than that all I can think of is Golems and various wished-for things.

There are also various national summons with astral magic, but it doesn't sound like you have access to them.

edit: Oh, and ether gate. 90 gems for, iirc 15 ether warriors(large, ethereal, weapons that kill magic creatures) and an Ether Lord. I think he has S2-3 and maybe D2. Or maybe its slightly random, not sure. Not exactly cost effective just for the mage(or even the whole spell), but its an option(S4D1 and 90 pearls).

edit again: Lamia Queens don't get astral, as Micah pointed out. And as Ylvali said, you can get lucky with Arch/Ice Devils.

Do want the mage to be a general summon or can it be nation specific?

I don't know if there's better general summon than golem but for nation specific Contact Couatl (c'tis & mictlan)is pretty good. S3 mage for 40 nature gems and it's very easy to get paths required. Even shaman can do it.

thanks shovah. I'd forgotten that lamia queens are astral. i know tartarians can get it, but I'm looking for something a little less end-gamish.... I'm thinking of stuff around the same time you could think about summoning the elemental kings/queens.

@zenzei general summon, yeah - although feel free to pipe up with nation specifics also.

Ether lords are the best if you cannot recruit strong astral mages. But to be communion slaves, the best may be the lizardman shaman indies if you can find any. Anything summonable is expensive.

I don't think ether lords are good for astral needs because they are so expensive. For 90 gems you could empower low level S-mage higher than the lord.

yeah that lord with his etherpplz I wanted to mention too.. not very cost effective I think. But if you want the highest astral power (and the put items on him) to cast high level spells he might be it.

I don�t think that 90 gems are enough to empower anyone near as the first level is 50 gems (I think) and you get only 40 more gems to more levels so the best you can get is S2 by empower.

No no, I meant you could (not that you should) empower an already low-level astral mage. For example lizard shamans are fairly easy to find and they are S1N1, so empowering him to S3 would cost 75 astral gems, which is 15 gems under the ether lord price.

There is also one arch devil(i think, might be wrong) and one Ice devil with astral 3. And a few other blood summons I think. Maybe one of the Heliophagi has astral?

Then I beleive there is one death summon with astral randoms. Cant remember which.

I also beleive one or more of the elemental kings have astral.

Lankas and Bandars national summons...

thanks everyone. I'm actually looking for something to forge spell focus' and the like so my pretender doesn't have to do the menial work. looks like spectres are going to be my best bet. the other option will be to earth empower the pretender and use golems....

Haven't been for quite a while, although I almost completely stopped gaming for some of that time aswell. Sort-of starting again, probably because some of my other games have stopped working.
