Dawn of Dominions map error

The new version of the Dawn of Dominions map contains at least one error. In the east you can see that a section of the map is slightly askew. This is nothing big of course, but I wonder why a new and inferior version of the map was shipped with the patch?
Maybe it is possible to just switch it for the old one?

Upon closer investigation of the map I found more distortion. The whole north border is also askew.

I dare to repeat myself: The maps weren't touched from 3.08 -> 3.10

Wait, let me guess, you're on a Mac aswell?

Nope, Linux. And it seems like this is happening in-game for some reason. The map viewed from outside is fine.

Ok I restarted the game a couple of times and it disappeared. Weird.

Starting the game client more than once while one instance is already running has always resulted in very colorful graphic glitches for me, if that is maybe related.

We had no intention of altering the Dawn of Dominions map. If there has been any changes to graphics or .map content it is probably due to tha fact that older unfinished versions of the map might be floating around on my computer. If an inferior version comes with the map I would like to know, so we can inform people, and post the working one in case someone lost the correct one.

I believe there is nothing wrong with the map or map file, rather the drawing of it in game. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

The problem goes away if I restart the game.

Aha, that might be a resolution thing. The maps is cut to pieces and reassembled when drawn (to save memory IIRC), and thin slices might overlap in the process. I'm not sure how and why. JK told me once, but I can't remember. It has been there fo a long time I think.

I see. If it might help I'm running linux (Fedora 7) with the latest nvidia drivers, my playing resolution is 1280x1024.

Re: Dawn of Dominions map error

Sorry for the necromancy but I have a good reason.

After some trial and error I have successfully found out the cause behind map tearing, and a very logical one at that. The name of the offender is of course filtering, as soon as you turn it off (completely), close down the game and reload the map, the tearing disappears.

Maybe some of you don't get annoyed by tearing, but I sure do, especially when playing beautiful maps like Dawn of Dominions. Fortunately I can now enjoy those maps to the fullest although without the filtering effect. So I'm extremely happy.

I now feel confident enough to report this as a graphics bug. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Rig used when testing:
Graphics: nVidia Geforce 6200
Driver: 173.14.12 (Linux)
OS: Fedora 9

Thread necromancy is actually approved by Shrapnel. Revive an old thread instead of starting a new one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I've never understood the prejudice against reviving old threads-I mean if they're good topics, then a year later people might have new views on them, and new people might become interested, for the betterment of the thread.

And it saves bandwidth.
