Any news on SEV Music?

I'm not a fan of SE. I baught SEIV Gold a while back but never really played it :\. Mainly because I could never find any good MP games... Anyway, that's beside the point. SEIV music/ambience SEIV music/ambience sucked, period. I'm a musician and I know what kind of music/ambience SEIV needed. So, to the question:

Any news on SEV music?

For multiplayer games, visit http://pbw.cc/
Zillions of games to join, web interface for easy game management and autohosting.

It has been hinted at that SE4 will be getting support for MP3s, too.

I've been there. It's almost impossible to find a game that's not needing replacements or has inactive players. I once joined a game... nothing became of it. I gave up. Haven't we played Dominions 2 together? You know I'm not a noob. Maybe I see you in IRC.

You should hit "Currently Open Games" instead of "All Games"
New games are colour coded green for easier picking too.

P&N Syndicate Wars will be starting in the next 2-3 days, if you want to join... there are already enough players so there won't be any delays.
Its a unique game, where the 8+ Pirate races will compete to see who can gather the most resources in 100 turns or so, by mercilessly plundering the hapless normal races. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I haven't played Dom2 multiplayer, though I did post a couple times on the forum...
I'm always on the #spaceempires IRC channel though.

With pretty much any game I've ever played, I pretty much expect half the players to drop

Yeah, it's hard to find a sizable group of players that are both dedicated to not missing turns and won't give up after their first serious setback. A notable exception was my very first PBW game, where everyone was required to express their dedication by paying a $20 entry fee to the Race to SEV Tournament. Missed turns were few and far between in general, and the quite small number of dropouts were replaced quickly. If you're willing to settle for 1-on-1, notify Alneyan (this thread would be a good place) that you'd like to join the King of the Hill League, and you'll be set up with an opponent in fairly short order. Otherwise, expect dropouts, try to find or make a particularly interesting game, set up your own tournament, or just give up and don't play.

The first 6 Carrier Battles mod games have a pretty good track record.
Out of a total of 23 players signed up for the various games, only one dissapeared before they were crushed.

#7 is full and about to start, while #8 is open.

Argitoth,

I tried to listen to some of your .mp3s on your site but it seems they would only play for 2 seconds - anything I'm doing wrong?

Hmm, try right-click "save as".

I tried a 'save as' yesterday as well but didn't have any luck. I tried both Windows Media Player and my Quintessential player but same problem.

I'm able to click and open your MP3's direct to my mp3 player. (Firefox, IrfanView plays mp3's for me)
I've only tried Shades, The Forgotten so far and I do enjoy it -- I'd like to hear it in the background of some SE5 game.
There always was one track on the SE4 CD that I thought was good -- its a very quiet track with some electronic sounds, faint in the background, like an intercepted alien transmission.

Even after I was used to it, it would still give me chills, a little unnerving when your planning something sneaky and you suddenly become aware of those ... sounds.

To each his own. I REALLY REALLY like the SE4 music; unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get it to play when I'm playing a mod.

And by the way, I'm a musician also. Ambient, experimental, etc. I think the ambient style of the SE4 music is just right for the game.

Re: Any news on SEV Music?

That's odd, when I tried it today everything was perfectly fine. It most have been some random computer glitch on my end.

Nice stuff, I think 'Mountain Stride', 'Liquid Forest', and 'Celestial Zenith' will make it on my Space Empires playlist.

If you were interested in doing music for SE:V, you can contact Aaron Hall of Malfador Machinations and ask him.

I think I know what you're talking about. Yeah, there was a few that really set the mood while you played.

Edit: [email protected] <-- not working.

There have been problems with the malfador.com email, but it seems to be all fixed now. Check your Private Messages, I sent you a quick note about your "dream" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
