OT: Sad day
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
I lost a good friend a few days ago, someone had not seen for a over eight months. He was a good pal, and the most human cat I had ever known. He left with family at the beginning of the year, and only today was I told that he had died. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif For those of you who have pets, you know what I mean when I say it hurts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1060908612.bmp I had missed him since they left, and to find out he was no longer alive just ruined my day. I am so very sad. [ August 15, 2003, 01:54: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |

Re: OT: Sad day
Tell me about it...
Been there, done that. Had a Siamese cat a long time ago. If you know cats, then you know Siamese cats are usually one-person cats. Well, I belonged to him. No matter what I was doing, he had to be on me...supper, TV, bed, computer. Washed me all the time. He got old and sick. I'll never forget giving up on getting him well and let him out in the yard to eat some grass, put him in the car and took him to the vet to be killed (for some reason, I prefer to call it what it is). They saw me at the front door, unable to go in and tears in my eyes. The doctor motioned for me to go around to the back. I'll never forget his eyes shutting slowly as he looked at me. Took me about 5 years before I ever got another cat. So, yes, some people DO know what you mean. You have my sympathy. [ August 15, 2003, 03:28: Message edited by: Slynky ] |

Re: OT: Sad day
Thanks guys. I have lost pets before, but loosing this Cat was tough. He grew up with my cat, and together they were the dynamic deuo.
Alvan used to sneak into my nephews room and lick their faces at night. I would be on the PC and one of them would open my door and deposite him in my room with a tired and barely ledgable comment "You watch Alvan!" This from a child that would not leave the poor cat alone at all during the day. LOL, that cat was one cool little fella. He would climb up on my monitor and watch me play Tribes for hours. My cat, Giligan is cool, but likes to be left alone. Alvan (Gizzmo) was very playful and loving. Especially at night after the boys went to bed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Pay back time. At least I have pictures of him. That makes it easier. For those of you who have lost a pet, I share your pain. |
Re: OT: Sad day
Sorry to here your loss Atrocities, i know exactly what you mean. I'm almost 17 and i had a cat called Sammy for 12 years of my life. It was around Last year it died in the night of old age. I'm no stranger to losing pets but this was like losing a life companion. People say dogs are mans best friend but i personally think cats should be. It's so easy to get attached to a cat and if you treat them right they'll treat you with love, affection and the occasional crap behind the pc on the power lines http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I'd pick a cat over any pet, any day.
On good news my family purchased 2 kittens a week or two ago (which to my distaste got called sooty and sweep, thats what having sisters will do to naming pets) And i admit that old feeling of attachments coming back to one of them, the others just....evil! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif I guess the best way to deal with the loss of a pet is do something that you'll remember on the day. Atrocities, you could start a feline based shipset with the race leader named Alvan and use the piucture below as race portrait. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif All i can say is i'm sorry to hear this. Cats are just the best pets on earth and i share your pain Atrocities, just remember to keep Giligan happy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Re: OT: Sad day
I feel your loss Atrocities.
I also had something bad happening to me regarding pets. A coworker's cat had produced offspring. Yeeha, kittens for me, i shouted http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif My girlfriend (now my wife) wanted cats too so we went over to his house to pick 2 kittens. After a year, i suddenly could breath. This happened at 4 am and i was scared like hell. I got a puffer (don't know if this is the correct word, it's such an inhaling thingie) for my lungs and it was a bit better but not much. They tested my blood and i suddenly was allergic to cats. My whole life I had cats and now i can't even touch them or bingo. I like all pets but cats have such funny personalities. Nobody we knew and trusted wanted to take our 2 cats so we had to do them to an animal shelter. That hurts like hell especially since the people over there don't believe you since a lot of people lie to them and say they are allergic. To this day my wife and i wonder how they are. Luckily after 2 weeks they where both adopted. |
Re: OT: Sad day
Yeah, Minipol, same thing happened to me.
32 years old after practically a whole life with cats, I started having asthma attacks. Doctors finally discovered it was cats, dogs, and a few other things. For 4 years, I took shots to "get used" to them. Cat scratches still turn red as heck and itch like crazy. And sometimes I forget after petting ours and rub my eyes (that's bad), but they don't affect my breathing any more and I got to keep them. The Siamese ("Rat") cat I had for so long traveled with me in the army as I moved around. He racked up 25,000 miles in the air. What a trooper! |

Re: OT: Sad day
let me tell you something about cats, their tailons all have some poison under them - so EVERY scratch will hurt.

Re: OT: Sad day
no narf, im not joking. ive read about it in some book about cats.
EDIT: its not a deadly poison or anysuch, it just irritates the scratch more [ August 17, 2003, 08:41: Message edited by: Taera ] |
Re: OT: Sad day
I've lost two cats in my life, one when I was in high school, and one three years ago. Had both cats for a long time. It's like a death in the family. You really miss them.

Re: OT: Sad day
As for cat claws and poison, maybe it has to do with burying their feces. A little venom doesn't sound so bad when you consider the alternative.
Condolences on the passing of your furry companion. (Anyone who has shared a home with a cat understands that it is an even bet as to who owns whom.) As you might tell from my avatar, we (my wife and I) are quite attached to ours. FWIW and if it matters.. I know of someone with kittens in Western KY if you are looking and are close enough to meet.
