Re: Multiplayer
Okay, there are basically three ways to run a multiplayer game: Hotseat, PBEM, and TCP/IP.
In a hotseat game, you basically designate multiple nations as human-controlled, and play the game alternatively with multiple humans, or just yourself, who are present at the computer.
In a PBEM game, you receive a .trn file from the player who is the host, place it in a folder in your Dominions 2 directory, and play existing game: Take your turn, and send the host back the .2h file. He places it in his game directory, and then pushes the HOST button to generate the next turn. Then he sends out the .trn files again.
In a TCP game, you connect or create a server by IP and port: Then you upload your god and nation by clicking on one of the open slots, and when the game is running, you simply pick the nation(s) that is(are) you, and play away: .2h uploading and .trn distribution will be handled automatically by Dom2.
A game can switch between any of these hosting methods at any time, as needed.

Re: Multiplayer
Well, there's two ways of getting into a multiplayer game: Start one yourself and invite people to join, or join a game which is accepting players. I happen to be seeking players for a game, if you're interested and have the endurance needed to play. Other people run games that proceed at a more sedate (snailish) pace, if you don't want to devote that much time to playing at once, not that I can imagine why, because surely Dominions II is the coolest game you could possibly get at this time, given that the gaming industry has produced nothing but shovelware for several months now.

Re: Multiplayer
Shameless plug: Try my hosting site:
Dominions II hosting site
You can start a Dominions II game there, if you wish...
Note that capitalVP is on, so if you set a totalvp, you'd better set requiredvp to at least (totalVp/2)+1. Eg. if you set totalVP to 5, set requiredvp=(5/2)+1=(3)+1=4. Otherwise, the gamers might never meet each other
