Default 11 out of my 12 planets riot all at once!! :-O

What's going on . All of a sudden , I get 11 of my 12 planets are rioting. I never really looked at their mood but why all of a sudden. My largest planet (home planet) is angry. Take a look at the pic here

Anyway , how do I get these populations back under control

There are several possible reasons for this.

1) The enemy is sending spies to cause riots. You will probably get a warning about this. Try adding more counter-intel, and research higher levels of applied intelligence.

2) Your people don't like war/peace/anything. If your people are set to peaceful, they will get angry about wars. If they are bloodthirsty, they will get angry about treaties. If they are neutral, they will whine unless you remain isolationaistic. Try to act according to the nature of your population.

3) You are getting your butt kicked all over the galaxy. If you are losing lots of ships and planets, people will start to get angry. Try to win battles to increase morale.

The best overall solution to any of the problems is to research applied political science, and then build urban pacification centers in all of your systems. This will calm people down and increase morale. If that fails, try garrisoning ships and troops at hot spots to keep the peace.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

If you have Temporal Tech available, go for the "Temporal Vacation Service" instead of the Urban Pacification Center. The TVS works twice as fast as the UPC...

I've taken to building a population happiness facility in every single system, as soon as possible, just in case. It's amazing how quickly a population can get unhappy!

Well , my race had a few points off the happiness amount when I set it up. But it's still odd they all rioted at once. I guess I wasn't watching their moods but I will now :-). I built Pacification Centres (I'm Canadian ... "re" :-D ...) and that got them back to normal.

This was early in the game and I checked and nobody really had any intel points to speak of so intel ops is not the cause. Anyway , thanks for the pointers

Look at the Happiness.txt file to see the modifiers for Happiness. If you are a Bloodthirsty race and you keep signing treaties or upgradding treaties you will quickly loose happiness. Other events adversely affect Nuetral and Peaceful races. However, in my opintion managing Bloodthirsty races is difficult if you are trying to sign treaties as well as wage wars.

I'm not sure if the function that increases happiness for bloodthirsty races when declaring war is working. I am sure that signing treaties does decrease happiness. I get thenhappiness gain event Messages when winning battles, but I don't get a message to indicate a change based on signing treatings or declaring war.
