patching games on PBW
Lo everyone,
im playing a pbw-game which uses Devnull 1.70. Now we are thinking about upgrading it to 1.71, but we are unsure on how to do it. The game is called "Baneful Icons of the Foe". Would anyone mind telling step-to-step what to do and in what order ?
Thanks a bunch

Re: patching games on PBW
First figure out whether the update will destroy your savegame or not.
It sounds like there is a good chance your game will be ok, since the version number change is so small, but you should probably test it out on a backup copy of the game, or ask the author.
Once you are satisfied that your savegame will not be ruined, find or upload the new version of the mod in PBW's mod gallery.
Then, in the admin requests forum on PBW, the host should post a message along the lines as follows:
"Hi,
Would you please upgrade my game 'Baneful Icons of the Foe' to use 'Devnull 1.71'
Thanks."

Re: patching games on PBW
Ok, but i was more asking about the order. in example: Turn 10 is processed as 1.70. All players download the turn and play them. Then they upload it, still 1.70. When all turns are there, upgrade the game, and the server will process the 1.70 turns with the 1.71 version on the server. When the turns are processed, the new turn will require 1.71 to play.
Okay ?

btw. The update will not destroy savegames, it only adds missing abilites and balances components, but it doesnt add new ones.

As far as I know, that is entirely correct.

Re: patching games on PBW
The "mod updates for dummies"
-> If you can load the savegame, play normally.
-> If you can't load the savegame, update the mod version and try again.
--
The "Mod updates for admin dummies"
-> Upload new version to PBW
-> Ask PBW admin to upgrade your game to the new version
-> Post news item saying the game will be updating in a few turns. Include copy of "Mod updates for dummies"
