Ummm.. In the tutorial it says that a colony type is just so the PLAYER will know how to treat a planet. This implies that the AI/ministers don't care what type of colony it is.

Shields?
Can someone tell me what shields are supposed to do? I put a shield generator on my ship, but it doesn't seem to do anything.. Are there some weapons (besides phased weapons) that aren't affected...

Well, I don't really see why you want all this realism.. To me, it is really just a game. IMHO, if you're gonna make the research system like that, you might as well just be giving your ships...
