Vehicles vs buildings

This was bugging me for a while and today I had to swear. I sometimes play PBEMs on my notebook with a touchpad. Yeah, sometimes you misclick and send unit elsewhere, or into enemy LOS or whatever. I can live with that. But the biggest fun is when you accidentally send your truck loaded with AT gun into hex with a building.

The driver happily smashes his truck into building, immobilising it.

Could be vehicles prevented from entering hexes with buildings (as it doesn't makes much sense tactically anyways) ?

Or perhaps something like requiring a SHIFT+click to enter hex with buildings for vehicles might do it.

Thanks for considering that.

Yeah, we've all had those moments. It's an interesting idea you've come up with but as always the considerations of programming predominate. Oftentimes in the digital world a cure might be worse than the disease, and taxing Don or Andy too much is inadvisable.

Since we as Godlike commanders control our own forces it is incumbent upon us to be alert at all times. Bad things happen in war, as in life, and mis-clicks are part of the game, as are snap judgments by referees in various sports. Reloading may be unpalatable for some players, in which case you can always start over, waiting for positional memories to fade if need be. Just my two cents. Cheerio.

everyday somewhere in the world someone drives a truck into a building...

Shift-click would be nice, but the AI does it more than we do by misclicks - so its swings and roundabouts.

I had a great uncle that was a tank driver during WW II that told me they had great fun driving thru buildings until one day they found one with a basement.

What the first poster mentioned about vehicles becoming immobilized in buiulding hexes being to easy, isn't all that unrealistic, afterall the bulding doesn't take up the whole hex, I'm sure there's space around the building.

The whole hex is treated as a building hex for the purposes game. Their is no option for infantry or vehicles to go round the building in the same hex.

You could also consider it just a bult up area with roads too narrow to fit a vehicle - One of the problems encountered in Afghan, Palestine, etc is that modern military vehicles are just too wide to fit! or in WWII a lot of the fighting took place in medieval towns, etc.
