This Mod changes the native language formation names (in the 8 OOB files that use native formation names) to english.

The affected OOBs are:

spob004.obf - Italian Social Republic
spob006.obf - France
spob008.obf - Vichy France
spob016.obf - Germany
spob032.obf - Spanish Republic
spob033.obf - Spain
spob034.obf - Italy
spob035.obf - Finland

I recomend you only use this mod for single player to avoid any PBEM problems.

The only changes made to the official WinSPWW2 version 4.5 OOB files is the translation of formation names. No formations were deleted, moved or added. And ofcourse I did not touch the Unit or Weapon lists in the oobs at all. There should be 100 % compatibility with single player game. However if you play PBEM both players should have the mod and any existing PBEM game will be broken if you install this mod.

To install the mod I recomend using the OOB manager in the Game Options "Utilities" menu. This way you can easily restore the default OOB set if needed.

Im glad someone finds this useful. I have never understood why some of the OOB's were in a non standard language. Makes buying the units from the lists a nightmare when all you see is gibberish. :)

Use the google translator. I do not know English and I can communicate with this tool. So I can translate some terms in other languages.
I say if you want to save a few megabytes of hard disk.

We give you FULL TRANSLATIONS of the names and their abbreviations in the Game guide. Anyone willing to make a slight effort can work from those lists and the main purchase headings in the game

We ran a poll on this. I left it posted as a sticky for months and hardly anyone bothered to vote and the vote was split which is why the issue was left alone

Yes I know this. Just voiced my own personal oppinion. ;)

The majority of players seem to either enjoy the nationalized oobs or just don't care. So it really is not an issue. And now there is this mod for those who want it.

Does this mod become obsolete when a new patch is released?

Re: English Formation names OOB MOD

Of course, the new OOB's contain changes the mod does not and the patch will overwrite all OOB's

Don

As this is a user mod, moved to the appropriate forum.

Like Don says - the issue OOBs may or may not agree with this mod in future. The issue OOBs have updated the unit, weapon and formation etc data in any case.

So - it is up to the original Modder to get hold of the new OOB set when issued and then re-do all the relevant names to suit his mod. Maintenance is the Modder's responsibility and not ours.

Cheers

Re: English Formation names OOB MOD

What is the harm in using this mod with the upcoming 5.0 version? As I understand it this is basicaly the 4.5 oob's with just the formation names translated to english.

So you would only be missing these oob updates:

Quote:

Both games OOBs have been checked and standardized for the following items for ALL units in ALL OOBs in BOTH games
  • Infantry size. ALL foot units that are NOT scouts are size zero if they are 4 men or under . Scout units are size zero at 6 men and under. The rest are size 1
  • Hand grenades have been standardized at 2 grenades per man for regular line infantry, 3 grenades per man for elite or specialist infantry like Paratroops and 1 grenade per man for second rate units like militia or partisans
  • Infantry rifle and LMG ammo has been standardized to a scheme mechanically determined by code, not whim and has been applied to all applicable units. If, for example, Nation A has a section with 9 men it , every other 9 man section will have the same rifle and LMG ammo. Elite or second-rate classes may have a few more or less than a regular.
  • Infantry speed checks were made for cavalry =speed 12 , bicycles=speed 9 and infantry limited to 6 movement points max if not a scout . Swim speed checks were done for infantry with all reset to 0 except for a very few specialist frogmen which are now swimspeed =1. Cavalry was standardized at swimspeed=1
  • Survivability- This field has been zeroed for any Infantry , off-map artillery, or aircraft and helicopter classes that may have had a rating applied over the years for units in these classes do not use this rating.
  • Heat armour- If HEAT armour was less than steel for any facing the error was corrected .

Or am I missing something here?
