Vanished Marines

During a PBEM turn my invasion force retreated even though I had the advantage i air and surface. Added to this I was punished as my Marines vanished into the Pacific triangle..just gone , not damaged or used in attack...just poof! Anybody else see this happen:(

As far as I've seen, this always happens. Either your invasion force wins, or it 'disbands'...seems like this was a 'design' decision, but I can't remember any details concerning it.
