price
Hi boys.
Can somebody help me? At the past few weeks Im getting interested in ww2 financial terms. About equipment, training prices, the main combatants exchange rates per months ect. I found it quite hard to secure some reasonable info on the net. Do somebody know some good resource? Although my interest is quite irrespective of the game, but I would be thankful if youd let me know how did you, and/or how does the game calculate prices! Thanks again |
Re: price
I can't suggest and good sources but anecdotally my grandfather was paid back for his last war bond sometime in the mid 1970s,

Re: price Plus Other Info for SP Gamers
Thanks PBob!
Was a good place to start. But seems to turn out that the whole matter is,... let's say out of reach. Some data can be found on different pages -mostly weapon price among lots of info-, and sometimes w/ total contradiction. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif But also, not just the web: there are no books or essays handling this. No (publicated) academic research. (Well the ReichArchive been bombed, so maybe it's a waste of time) The only result is that I found a website that can show the exchange rates of about 40 or so countries. http://www.measuringworth.com/exchan.../exchangerates (I've contacted my national military archive service, constitution -what ever-, asking whether there is some sort of financial report of the WWII era, but it's been said that they don't know about it. Lies or not, it proved to be unobtainable) But Don can you please tell me something about prices set up in the game! Is it a good aproximation, or did you have some data on it? Thanks |
Re: price Plus Other Info for SP Gamers
The points costs for equipment in these games has absolutely nothing to do with "cash" price in terms of USD, DM etc. Points cost is based on effectiveness in the game, and to a certain extent, rarity. Also, it is then multiplied by unit training, experience, morale and so forth if that deviates from the default, none of which are attributes directly purchased with money.

Re: price Plus Other Info for SP Gamers
Using vehicles as an example virtually any change in the OOB can result in a cost change when the unit is run through the cost calculator. If you increase armour that increases cost. Increase speed and that increases cost. Give it a more effective weapon increases cost.
If you want to see how it can change build a fictitious vehicle in one of the OOB's with lots of unit spaces. Build the first one with basic armour and any small weapon and a slow speed then copy that to the next slot and upgrade something then copy that to the next slot and upgrade something else. Do that as many times as you like then run the OOB through the cost calculator and you'll see how price can increase with the various changes but remember that is only part of the equation. That's the base price. when bought in the game that cost is further modified by experience and morale. As Andy noted this has NOTHING to do with what a vehicle in one nation would have "cost" to produce as opposed to it's "cost" in another unit. The cost calculator has everything to do with ensuring that all units in all nations are calculated with the same standard. And yes..... some have argued in the past that some nations should be changed less or more for a given piece of equipment but we don't handle cost that way and have no plans or interest in changing that. The system we have now is fair. Don |
