Klakar Trader
I don't mean to complain, but I remember the Klakar ship being both more durable and more helpful in SAIS. Instead of being a sort of Allied ship there to save your tail, the Klakar ship acts more like some kind of confused neutral party that cares nothing for your survival.
It would be nice if, when it's in the range of three enemy ships, it was programmed to attack the ship that closest (and most threatening) to your ship first. Certainly situations that I find myself calling the Klakar in for are already out of hand, but I have yet to make it out alive with their help. In fact, they seem to die very quicky when assailed by fighters. |

Buh? There's no trick to using the Klakar effectively beyond the obvious-- only call them in when you're just slightly outclassed, and don't wait until things are "already out of hand" to do it.

They do die pretty fast when attacked by fighter groups, but then again, so does most anything else. They do have a Meson Lattice Shield, which is pretty darn good, so they will last for a little while.
Their AI is like that of any other ship not under your control -- they move towards and attack the nearest enemy. Since you can't predict where they will appear, this can make using them tricky. Using a fighter of your own (or a fast small ship, such as the Bloodfang with a good impulse drive) to control the enemy helps a lot. |

If you feel that the Klakar ships aren't that helpful, create a mod and remove the three weapons the Klakar ship has and replace them with three wp_furies.
HAH-HAH-HAH! The Klakar ships will suddenly become rediculously helpful... |

Yes, I the wp_furies is indeed fun. I see you too have been diving into the .ini's!
