The Ultimate Mod

Hi, I just signed up. Well to the point of this post, I have had Space Empires IV (non-gold) for about 2 - 3 years. Anyway I had downloaded the Untimate Mod, I found it on SpaceEmpires.org. But I ended up having to uninstal the game, and becuase my CD-ROM drive had failed , I could not reintall the game. Well I have since gotten a new CD-ROM drive, but when I went to download the Ultimate Mod I could not find it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif. Instead of it being on the PBW site there was a link for a Ultimate Mod 2, which had been removed. So I tried SpaceEmpires.org only to find out that site was no longer up, which I would like to know why. So I was hoping that someone here would know of somewhere that I could download the mod.

Re: The Ultimate Mod

The mod was discontinued a few years ago. Hadrian requested that it no longer be available to download from PBW, so it was removed. SpaceEmpires.org was shut down about 2 years ago due to it's owner, Hadrian, leaving the SE4 community for the final time.

There are, in the meantime, many other interesting mods avaliable for SE4. Malfador Machinations has a mods listing page to browse. Most are for Gold, however. There are some pre-Gold mods available to download from SpaceEmpires.net

I remember that mod! It was sad to see the site go down. I looked forward to the release of the Ultimate Mod. I wonder if he could give up what he completed for someone else to finish it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Apparently he gave everything to Lord Kodos. Nothing has come of that though...

Re: The Ultimate Mod

ultimate mod was a collection of many ideas from many mods.

most of the ideas stemed from the se3 game. And the Mod just grew and grew.

Problem was that is was never completed in any areas. Nor was it balanced.

I found it unplayable vs computer and vs other players.

What I did find in it was some good ideas. And It was a snap shot of what modding was like 3 years ago.

New mods are tweaked and built off these older mods.

Or an idea or concept is created.

Then the mod is slowly built up around that idea or concept.

And the modder these days adds section. Takes an idea from another mod , looks at their idea... and goes hmm balance...

And builds from that.

Personally Hadran and Kodus made the right decision to retire the mod.

I disagree with the fact that it was taken down and perhaps you should send kodus a message to offer it up again. For historical purposes and for some good ideas.

I built my first mod off some of the layouts in that mod. Yea tescomod. Which was along time ago.

Re: The Ultimate Mod

Wow. I have not posted here in ages. But I still lurk, like a horrible monster what lurks in the shadows of the night.
Upon his departure, Hadrian entrusted the UM to me, to splice and dice as I see fit. Many of its masterwork images have made it into the LR mod, as have many of its concepts.
What is the LR mod you ask? Allow me to hijack this thread for a moment and explain.
LR Mod, shortly for Space Empires IV: Legacy of the Ra'shrakil, is my epic mod that has many new features, and lots of cool shiny things. Its been in production for ages, primarily due to my ungodly laziness, but the latest Version is good to go as soon as I test it.
Now then, back to the UM.
The UM was never completed. I have access only to what was publically released. I never had, nor do I now have, access to any "Secret" data or art files.
Now, on to the subject of a UM Re-Release. LR, in many ways, builds upon the UM1, and takes ideas from what was known of the UM2. I do not think Hadrian would want the UM being re-released in its original form, considering how he had it removed, and I will not go against his wishes.
So, in closing, to those of you who have the UM: Congratulations, you own a piece of SE history. To those of you who dont: Sorry. Look forward to LR.

i am still amazed that he deleted every post he made here as well... That must have been fun with the way the old forum did its linking....

Re: The Ultimate Mod

A couple of months ago I asked Fyron if he could give some info about the UM. He gave me a link to the pre-gold Version and also gave me some addtional info. I planned to make a Gold Version of it. Just to update it, nothing further.
I updated it to Gold, but I haven't asked Hadrian yet if I could release it. It's not perfect, the AI for instance isn't made completely gold yet, the empire files are still pre-gold.
I would be happy to make it available to someone who would like to continue it. Any takers?

Re: The Ultimate Mod

Thanks Tesco, but I really think Lord Kodos is in command now over this Mod. I mearly updated it. I added nothing new.
Anyway, I dont even have a website to upload it.

Lord Kodos: Are you interested in the UM Gold? If not, I'll go ahead and refine it a little bit (the AI) and publish it myself.
