New Nation: Hellgate

1 Attachment(s)
Version 0.04

LE Demonic nation.

Quote:

With the end of the Angelic Wars and the dissolution of the alliance with Nephilim, some of the demons that fought in the wars were allowed to remain. A plan was conceived by the Princes of Hell - to use those demons as a means by which more demons could escape. The remaining demons were charged with finding the weakest boundary between Hell and this realm. They were to construct a city on that spot and create a portal through which the demons will pour into this world. The spot was found, the city built and the Hellgate created. Now with the assistance of Hellions, children of demon and man, the path to escape and conquest can be opened for the demonic hordes. In order to speed up the Great Migration the inhabitants of the city have been allowed to specialize only in the ritualistic blood magic. There is no holiness to be found in New Gehenna since it is an extension of Hell.

I dont lack ideas http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Thats why I highlighted "wanted" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif I'm just repeating myself at this point. How many guys with swords can you make?

Start giving them different weapons! problem solved! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I mean how many different kinds of guys with swords can you make before they all start to look alike? All the truly original mods are already made. I looked at my latest mod and it looked just like the previous few.

I tried that in my "Travelers" mod. But its still swords and axes no matter what you call them.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Perhaps you could focus on spell modding or even mapping, if you need a change of pace/scenery.

I think it's good to take a break, go back and update older mods sometimes though.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

I can definitely see Amos making us some nice spells should he feel like doing so http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

It'd be awesome to have a fairly big mod that adds alot of new spells, probably focusing on new and exotic summons, but some effects are a little limited.

And sombre's right about the break, I haven't made a mod in ages and my imagination's going nuts, but I've yet to settle.....

This I do not understand at all, every mod I personally work on, or someone else's mod I try, gives me enough material and ideas to create two more. Even if I had a hundred fold more time than I do now, I don't think I would be ever done.

My advice to you, (if you really want to keep at it, and not actually go for a break, which is perfectly fine, and probably healthy, considering your prodigious output) try examining a mythology you're unfamiliar with. Or watch the history channel, or examine fantasy games and worlds you like, or pick up some fantasy book you've been putting off, or read an online developer diary about ideas that were left unused.

There are plenty of sources, and yes, many things are impossible to recreate in Dominions, but just as many are possible.

I believe there's a bug with the Hellion General. He only has leadership 40. Should be 80 or 120?

Amos March 8th, 2008 03:20 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

When I say original I mean mod design not a story.

He has 90 undead leadership and all the national troops are demons.

Added a new hero "Abaddon".

Amos March 9th, 2008 07:59 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Added a new spell "Summon False Prophet".

Amos March 9th, 2008 08:45 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Version 0.02

"Maleficium Demonicus", "Master of Malice" and "Pit Lord" are made capital only.

Amos March 10th, 2008 05:59 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Gave "Pit Lord" siegebonus 15.

Amos March 11th, 2008 02:21 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Added a new spell "Summon Leviathan".

I will be away from my PC for a few month so there wont be any updates to my mods for a long time (I was kind of tired of them anyway). There are always things to fix or add but I think that most of my mods are fairly complete at this point.

Wow. How can you be away from your PC for a few months. To me, that would be like being away from water for a few months. I don't think I could survive it.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

My guess is Amos must be in the military and headed for some training or assignment... otherwise he could pickup a inexpensive laptop and keep playing and/or creating.

I think I'll go take a break myself, late this spring or summer. There's nothing in the internet that I need in short-term or long-term, and I really need to learn to draw better. Not having access to computer will let me do twenty things I wouldn't have time for otherwise.

Ahh, don't do that Endoperez. We need you here on the forums. At least maintain an email connection.

I don't do much on the public forums. I answer to everything, and I read everything, but I don't mod, I don't moderate, I'm not good enough to write multiplayer guides, I don't organize games or update any datebases. Perhaps you have confused me with Edi? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Besides, if I do manage to learn to draw, or more importantly COLOR, during my break it shouldn't be hard to adjust the skills into creating sprites, which would allow me to finally finish some of the mods whose frameworks I've written down over a year ago.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

I think I might do a 'balanced' version of this mod. Amos gave his permission a while back and I think it would be interesting to do, so I'll start work tonight.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

I need to get away from my PC too, it's starting to suck too much life out of me. I hope Amos will continue atleast to contribute artwork to the game? You really are quite talented, and there are plenty of units already existing in the "vanilla" version that could use updating (the Devs are awesomely talented in the artwork department, but that talent is spread over 5000+ units and counting, and it's not their only focus, anyway). Plus, I'm sure lots of modders, myself included, would welcome any artwork you'd like to provide to us.

That is, ofcourse, if you're just out of personal interest in contributing your own mods to the game.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

P.S. how about a nation that doesn't use any weapons?

You know, with all the 'alien' races being thrown about here, why not make something along those lines? You could go down the Buck Rogers route, complete with zap guns and Hot Green Alien Women who, like the succubus, could kidnap enemy commanders http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif . You could also go 'classic sci-fi' and have Martians in their war tripods zapping everyone in their way. Or you could take inspiration from relatively serious sci-fi, and fit in Cylons or Star Wars aliens.

Daleks might be a bit much though, except as Pretender Gods http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Endoperez April 21st, 2008 03:13 AM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

I'd like to see a Barsoom nation of green martians, with John Carter the Gentleman from Virginia and Dejah Thoris the Princess in Peril as two of the heroes.

For those uninitiated, go read Burrough's Princess of Mars from Project Gutenberg.

You might want to try my "Travelers" and "Commonwealth" mods. I'm swamped with my work and girlfriend, so even if I had new ideas I dont have the time to implement them.

Tried this mod the other day. Quite fun and quite powerful.

Not sure why anyone would buy anything but the dark knights though. Fire breathing fear inspiring and flying. I would gladly pay a lot more for these. Lesser units cost half as much but are not anywhere near as effective. Hell Cannon guys are quite good and fun though.

I tested the mod the other day and I have to agree. I'll try to find some way to make the Raiders more expensive.

Amos April 25th, 2008 04:28 PM

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

Gave Raiders and mounted Dark Knights higher price and ap.

Re: New Nation: Hellgate

I'd like to see nations based on Empire of the Petal Throne (Tekumel) or Talislanta, both of those are very original fantasy role playing settings/games that include elements of science fiction, without going completely overboard into B movie land.

That said, I'd really like to see a couple Ice Pirate units show up in the game someday http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Star Wars, Buck Rogers, etc. might be far better known, but the process of translating those "universes" into Nations would be much more of a matter of shoehorning than the two I mentioned, each of which has a very long history and a rich, complex setting to draw from-they're also both woefully underrepresented and relatively unknown.
