Help?

Uhm, yes, it appears as though, when I click "End Turn" on my game, it will get to "Resolving Battle(Turn 1)" and then, nothing happens.

I've got a gig of ram, so it ought to do it, but I'm not sure why it won't go past this point. I downloaded the megapatch. I assume this means all of the patches that have previously been released are included in that patch, yes?

Re: Help?

They should be, yes. Upload the turn file, IW probably needs to look at it to see what is wrong.

DrStrangelove October 10th, 2007 02:30 AM

Re: Help?

Mmk. I (somehow) fixed the "Resolving Battle" bug. Reinstall, plus start the game prior to patching(putting in the CD Key and all that), so then I patched it to 3.10.

Now, when I get the ConVArmynbr: Error.

Could it be because I've got 1 savegame from the 3.00 version(I used it as a test, to see if it would get past that part without said patch)?

Borya October 10th, 2007 02:55 AM

Re: Help?

I get the same ConrArmyNbr Error.

DrStrangelove October 10th, 2007 04:21 AM

Re: Help?

Alright. The game works without the 3.10 patch. Should I download all of the individual patches, and patch the game in order, or what?

Edi October 10th, 2007 04:25 AM

Re: Help?

3.08 followed by 3.10 should be enough. My Dom3 is patched to 3.04, 3.06, 3.08 and 3.10.

One of the things that I must ask: Are the games you're running using mods? Specifically, mods that affect armor?

Because any mod that assigns Lightweight Scale Mail to any units will have been broken by this patch since there was a spelling error in the armor name (it was previously Light Weight Scale Mail, but is now Lightweight Scale Mail). I need to make a post in the Maps & Mods forum about that...

Sensori October 10th, 2007 04:27 AM

Re: Help?

Hmm. You could try putting on an older patch, then hosting so the game becomes that version's game, then putting on a newer patch, hosting again and so on until you hit 3.10 and see if it works.

Never had problems like that myself, though. Is there some kind of compatibility issue that now goes from the down up, too?

No, I've learned the hard way to make certain a game works prior to applying a patch.

I shall try this method. <_<..you know, I was a bit peeved when I didn't get a very quick response, however, the fact one of the game devs responded...wow.

Game looks great, and this is coming from someone who doesn't particularly like turned-based strategy.

Re: Help?

Righto. 3.08 patch worked fine. 3.10...

Same problem. I don't understand. Is there anything else that could be tried?

Re: Help?

Uh, I'm actually NOT one of the devs. I do consider them friends of mine, though.

I'm in the beta test group and the author of the Dom3DB as well as being officially responsible for maintaining the bug shortlist and keeping that in order. I post a lot on these forums to answer questions and help people, since I have a fairly extensive knowledge of various aspects of Dominions 3.

huh. Could've fooled me, really(obviously, you did)

So! <_<...any ideas on what's causing my problem? It's only 3.10. The other patches, game runs fine.

Re: Help?

If that did not work, I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be. If you upload the savegame as an attachment, somebody else could see if the problem occurs also on their system. If it does, we can send the file to Illwinter so Johan can take a closer look at it to uncover the problem.

Alright, the attachment should be in this(this one right here) post...

Re: Help?

Maybe this could be of some help:

Dominions 3.08(win32) reports upon opening the savegame:

myversion 3.08
fileversion 3.09
nation-1

Are you by chance running Dom3 on a Mac - there seems to be an issue with the patch on some Macs which results in v3.09 shown on the intro screen, and maybe unknown more errors due to missing/corrupted data files ...

Re: Help?

Hi, are you sure that you got the game from Shrapnel or one of their official resellers. If you have been handed an unofficial copy by some devious pirate you might experience that the game hangs or craches. I'm not sure how this plays out, but I seem to recollect that the 'convarmy-whatever' is such a crash.

If you have bougth the game from Shrapnel your CD-key should be present on the inside of the cover of the manaul. Try to reinstall the game and use the CD-key from your manual. If this doesn't work, please contact Shrapnel or us.

If you actually have an unlawful copy of the game I hope that you will find it good enough to be worth a buy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Actually, I found it on Ebay. Did I do something illegal, or..?

Edi October 10th, 2007 01:22 PM

Re: Help?

No. Buying things off eBay is not illegal at all. But if the game came without a manual, it was probably a pirate copy to begin with. In such a case, the CD-key was probably known and blacklisted, so it would cause the crashes. If the game had a manual with it, it should be legit. Do you have one?

Re: Help?

Dr. Strangelove, if nothing else you got your wish of a dev response. Kristoffer O (KO) is one of the 3 chaps (that's right, there are only 3 of them) who have made the game. That's kind of like getting Sid Meir(sp?) to answer your post.

Kristoffer O October 10th, 2007 01:29 PM

Re: Help?

Actually we're only 2. And I'm not nearly as powerful as Sid. Sid is surrounded by a halo of inner light, while I'm just surrounded by a constant noice (high school students). That makes me more communicative http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

DrStrangelove October 10th, 2007 01:53 PM

Re: Help?

Oo.

Hm, I think I got a manual...did any other manual, short of that massive 300 page-thing I've read about(yet do not have), be released with the game?

<_<..thanks for all of your help, really. I've been playing the game in 3.08, and other than the fact I suck and don't know how to research, it's alot of fun.

Kristoffer O October 10th, 2007 02:02 PM

Re: Help?

Nope. The 300 page manual by Bruce Geryk is the only official one. If you don't have it you probably have been decieved by an evil e-bayer.

Research is easy, just give your mages the research order and chose what school to research in the magics menu. After a couple of turns you have access to a bunc of new spells.

The game would be a lot more understandable if you had a manual http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'd imagine if I did indeed have that Necronomicon-wannabe that I would be able to play the game easier..

Well, I'm sorry for buying a pirated version of the game. The game came in the box, with it's CD key on a sheet of paper. I've gotten games like this before, thought nothing of it because it said it had been used, and hey, people lose manuals. Hell, that's the first thing I tend to lose.

But, thanks for being so helpful. The game *is* fun..

We all make mistakes, and yours is an understandable one. The game actually does not come in a box at all, it just comes with a 300-page manual (ring binder type), with the CD-key attached inside the front cover and the CD itself in between the manual somewhere. That's how mine arrived. If you really like the game, you can get one through Shrapnel. We'd be glad to have you here if you do that.

I would recommend buying a legit copy from ShrapnelGames... otherwise all future patches/fixes beyond 3.08 will not work.
Personally I never purchase anything from EBay unless it's never been opened and the seller has lots of sales with a high rating.

As NT Jedi said. You should buy a legit copy. That's actually a fairly big deal, since people who use pirated copies after they know about them being pirated, even if they did not get them on purpose like you, will be banned from the forums.

It's been Shrapnel policy that if you use a pirated copy, you will be forcibly denied the support these forums offer. The mods here are required to bring your situation to the attention of the admins, who tend to be rather swift and straightforward in this kind of cases. In your case, they would probably want to talk to you by PM or email to sort some details out and resolve the issue.

Any further discussion in this thread is going to be rather useless, so it should be taken to PM and the issue raised with the admins, who will then take over the arrangements.

I'm also locking this thread now, since there is nothing more to discuss in public.
