Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interested?
I wonder if anybody would be interested in small campagin about 2nd korean war (circa 2008), played from north korean POV?
For now it's just an idea... but i'm working on it. If anyone has any ideas how the story should go, or about what core forces should be used, i'll be waiting for your posts here. For now my idea of the core is a company of T-62Ms with permanently attached tank raiders infantry. ... and BTW, anyone knows why are T-62MVs armed with much older gun than T-62Ms? |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interested?
Yes I would be interested in that.

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interested?
T-62 in 2008, sounds like a turkey shoot for M1A2s
Or is it one of these quantity has a quality all of its own situations? |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interested?
Well, i'm not saying that it's going to be easy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif .

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interested?
In view of todays missile tests perhaps I spoke too soon.

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
North Koreas army is nominally over 1 million strong. But most "soldiers" are actually just construction workers. (nearly all construction work is done by the army). I mean that N.Korea militarly is not as big of a threat as the numbers show.
I'm not familiar with their AT capability what do they have in their OBB capable of taking out Abrams tanks? because you mentioned missiles. |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
In face-to-face, T-62 has (small) chance to kill K1A1 Tank. It can kill older K1s without too much problems.
To kill Abrams, only cjance is to shoot from side or rear. |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
The missiles I was referring to were their recent surface to surface ballistic missile tests (more like Pershing or SS-20 than ATGM).

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
ok, are those modeled in the game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
I dont know if they are or not.
What I meant was: My initial post suggested that it might be a turkey shoot given the timeframe and relative merits of the platforms. Therefore it might not attract much interest. However the recent missile test firings put Korea back on centre stage and that therefore interest levels would be higher. |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
oh, ok. yes, it could be interesting
|
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Rugged terrain that removes the long range and high tech advantage could spice things up. Add some bad weather.
|
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Well, bad weather actually gives the edge to South Korea / US.
|
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
The koreans would have to fight in built up terrain, to try and negate the South Korean/US long-range-accurate fire adavantage.

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Can they call in any allies? with more modern equipment. Maybe on a loan basis. Or maybe they could use nuke tipped StS missiles. That's their goal right now. That's the ultimate anti-tank missile. A nuke landing on your turret top is going to ruin your day, in any tank. Ha Ha. Yeah, I think it's a worthy idea. Maybe have them use M60 tanks to even out the playing field. Does the N.K.'s have any allies or friends?

Supposedly they manufacture some T-62 variant, the Ch'onma-ho, with 125mm gun, autoloader,ERA and others improvements (reportedly they were observed during a parade). They are also rumored to possess very small quantities of T-72s and
T-80s. They are also reportedly interested in building their own version of the T-90. But it has been awhile since I did some research on the north korean military. The game OOB includes the T-80U and the T-2002 (which would probably stand for the local T-90) |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
A while ago i was thinking of big Korean War Campagin, when you would command US Armored Cav troop. [ Yes, i know how orginal this is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ] .
The story i thought was that north korea decided to change it's policy, allowing russian and chineeese companies to exploit its natural riches (coal, metal ores, etc) in exchange for financial help and new and "new" weapons. For example, russia decided to sell NK most of their T-64s for almost free (in similar fashion how gremany given Poland their Leo 2s.). The campagin would probably require modified oob - north korea would need new RPGs, new tanks, new atgms... and so on to be a challenge for the player. Currently that project is suspended. Maybe i will try to restart it someday... |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Realistically I don't think China or Russia would risk world war over N.Korea. But you can stretch reality in a fictional-campign.
|
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
The idea of an NKPA campaign would be interesting.
And about Allies, you can always stick to the rethoric of the Axis of Evil... |
Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Well, for now i dont have time to finish it... I've got two campagins waiting to be finished (NKPA and WW3 '49 )
Working sucks, i tell ya [But at leeast the money ar good http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif] |

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
Consider this.
One of the popular conspiracy theories in South Korea is that Japan helps North Korea because it is in the best interest of Japan to keep Korea divided. So maybe a rogue splinter group of Japanese "volunteers" with high tech weaponry show up in the Peoples Army. Farfetched perhaps, but it could be a shock to the a player used to the diet of T-62 mods and inaccurate artillery. |

Now given the credibility of a full-fledged conventional war between North and South in the near future http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif, I don't see why you should rule the Japanese element out! Possibly as some kind of tech transfer though, I don't think there would be that many 'volunteers'. Even high-tech weaponry may be a bit showy, but the most plausible elements (cash, intel, diplomacy) aren't in the scope of the game. |

The worst conspiracy theory ever! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rant.gif

Re: Korean War II - from N.K. PoV. Anybody interes
I think that some people are looking for a solution to a problem which does not exist. The NK OOB already includes
the T-80U, the T-2002 and the BMP-3, as well as Fagot ATGM and Igla SAM.Provided that you do not clash with top of the line US kit, but instead with typical South Korean stuff like K1 tanks you should be fine. You can make up a backstory for a small size lite unit which got what little modern equipment North Korea had and perhaps support them with more average stuff as cannon fodder. Include some russian RPG-7Vs or ATGMs if you really need extra punch. |
