Kawangi Safari

What is the most pathetic flotilla that you can destroy a yellow kawangi ship with in the simulator? Least ships the better, lower class, any race.

I almost beat it with two Tan-ru Demolishers but I think I can do better.

After that I think I'm going to go try two Kawangi

Just started playing with the simulator (out of frustration with the crash-when-changing-ships bug mentioned elsewhere) but two Muktian frigates and a corvette will do it.

A trick I finally got a chance to try: Mirror a Kawangi into a black hole.

It doesn't kill the Kawangi - but the ability to mirror the Kawangi around does allow you to utilize them against those you don't like, or buy yourself some time by setting them farther back from Glory.

I should have tried sending them back to a system they already blew, to see if they'd do it again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

is it possible to get the Kawangi and Primordious in the same game? I'd like to see who comes out on top in a fight between those two, but it would take a lot of luck to set up.

first, both quests would need to spawn. then you would need long range scanners, hyperdrive, mirror, cloak, and gravity shield.

or i guess you could just edit the combat simulator to permit it..

Re: Kawangi Safari

Well it seems like as quests, the Primordius and Kawangi quests could be made to occur in the same game, but how would you get the Kawangi into a Black Hole unless they were given the proper device?

Simulator sounds more promising. Damocles vs Kawangi might be fun instead!

This crash was fixed in the 1.11 patch.

OK - best one ever.

I can take out a Kawangi with a single Zorg fighter.

And I have pictures to prove it.

Re: Kawangi Safari

If we're talking about just the game itself an dnot the simulator, I can take out Kwangi with just a Chromium Gong. lol

Kawangi (as most other ships in fact) have a serious vulnerability to Zorg fighters due to their annoying habit of zipping in and out all over the map.

Re: Kawangi Safari

OK, let's see the pictures - and a description of the tactic. I'd have expected the graviton beams had good enough arcs to nuke you anyway? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Yeah, color me impressed. Im going have to try this one.

Re: Kawangi Safari

except, rokkitgrrl, that their incredibly powerful weapons also have wide fire arcs and they've got deisel sheilds.

i don't think it can be done without some modding. even though the zorg fighter can teleport in between the front and rear beam fire arcs, it requires serious timing. it also only takes about three seconds before you're back inside one of the fire arcs, so assuming you even can get a shot off, you're pretty much screwed as it is.

the only thing i haven't tried is attempting to teleport between both the rear beem fire arcs, which would still pose a problem as you would never be able to maintain kawangi speed (read: slow as hell) in a zippy little fighter.

impress me, nx.

Ha. The damn thing's got three beam weapons hanging off its ***-end. I maintain that it can't be done without modding :p

Re: Kawangi Safari

you dont need to worry about the fighters higher speed. when im tailing capital ships with a fighter, i move the fighter by hand. wait for the ship to move a litte, then inch the fighter forward. keep it stopped most of the time.

working on it... i've got a new box with no pic software on it... grr...

NihiliX: At first I thought you'd at least need a second ship standing back to prevent the view zooming in, so as to provide enough background space to escape to, but then I figured it out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I can confirm that it can indeed be done with just a single Zorg fighter (and far more easily than with the hit and run tactic I was initially attempting!)

edit: Not wanting to steal NihiliX's thunder, but as people seem keen for some kind of evidence I'll provide this one screen (see attachment).

Sure it could be modded, but where's the fun in that?!

Re: Kawangi Safari

I can't seem to survive trying to keep up with the Kawangi - I can warp in (jump point to just in front of the nose, become mid-ship by the time of the jump), and I think the trick is to try to keep moving forward in tiny jumps, but I can't seem to avoid winding up in range of its weapons.

Not quite, but close. There's a trick to it.

Re: Kawangi Safari

I just did it. Took me about 10-15 tries. I knew the zorg fighter was really powerful but, wow.

Really? Well, I'd love to know what that 'trick' is, then; because as near as I can tell, all of the fighters are pretty near useless. The best purpose I've found for them is to put 'em out in front in the formation so the enemy locks onto them, then run them back and forth in front of my capital ships as a decoy, holding the enemy's attention while the capital ships pound 'em.

Shadowcat January 2nd, 2006 09:55 AM

Re: Kawangi Safari

Generally the distraction role is the best use for them, yes.

You can effectively eliminate the incoming fighters from any number of Garthan Carriers simply by leading them all on a merry chase, and preventing any more from being launched.

And don't discount the value of being able to zip up behind an enemy ship (one without rearward-facing weaponry, at least http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif and pound on it with a Plasma Blaster...

nihilix January 2nd, 2006 03:58 PM

Re: Kawangi Safari

Tao - you have the best use of fighters there - it's very very useful to have one to distract everyone else. They're your little personally controlled countermeasure!

The text description of the Zorg/Kawangi trick is here:

Enjoy!

Re: Kawangi Safari

a fighter - any fighter - is the death of any capital ship that does not have a rear fireing arc. like anything besides a large zorg ship.

I even killed a vent mother with Ripcord. The VM locked onto my capital ship (which had nothing but neptunium railguns for point defense, and a short range beam). the fighter swept behind the VM, and hammered on its rear arc (just out of range of its point defense lava vents) until it died. The thing exploded just before it got in range of my Terran Frigate's beam weapon.

Fighters do, in fact, rock. Keeping them alive in a larger firefight is hard, and takes a lot of attention. But it can be done. And their ability to distract half an incoming flotillia should not be understated.
