The New Game: The Revenge
Welp, that Last game went over pretty well. So I'm thinking of starting another game. As always, something along the neighborhood of 4-5 hours a day, to run on a fairly consistent schedule, barring intermittent emergencies for somebody, to the death!
Who's in? Navrunner? Condors? Want some revenge? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
not ready for a rematch yet, looking at other races

Re: The New Game: The Revenge
I keep being tempted by one of these epics. Post details, and perhaps I'll lay in plenty of supplies and join one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: The New Game: The Revenge
I may be up for a game sometime in the near future to test my skills and see how they work in a MP game. It would be a good test as you seem to be quite a formidable player, Norfleet.
However, it will have to wait a few weeks at least until I can get 4-5 hours at a time to commit to play. Even then, I would only be available from 5pm-10pm Eastern on weekdays and most anytime during the morning and afternoon on the weekends. One question I do have is about how long does it take for each turn normally? I know it must vary widely depending on how far into the game and other factors, but what is it by average? I am just curious as to the pace and whether I would be able to plan/think fast enough to keep up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . |

As a good rule of thumb, turn N will take (N+5)/2 minutes to complete, on average. |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Yes I would be interested. I am not sure if "revenge" would be the goal.

What side do you want to call this time? Me? I'm Ermor again. Maybe I'll take Soul Gate for a spin, though. Mostly, I just called it that because "The Revenge" sounds cool. I already have a game running called "The New Game: Ultimate Death", so I figured "The New Game: The Revenge" would sound nice. [ March 10, 2004, 02:29: Message edited by: Norfleet ] |

Ooohohoho, ermor!? >:}
I don't get it though. Can you give me some info on how this is going to work? I don't want to do PBEM. and it looks like this is a network game, so how is this going to work? It looks like we will take turns when we are all Online like a blitz. [ March 10, 2004, 05:27: Message edited by: Argitoth ] |

And yes, it's a network game. It works exactly like a blitz. We may even PLAY it as a Marathon-blitz, if nobody has any impinging time issues. Basically, we start the game at the appointed time, and we play until somebody has to go. Then we pick up again the next day. And so on, until only one man remains standing. And be warned that I fight to the bitter end. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

I take it you're going to be C'tis? That'll make for an interestingly amusing tug-of-war, if everyone is casting undead mastery back and forth. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: The New Game: The Revenge
i love to be everyone elses beyatch...but there's no way i could do it for hours for consistent days, i have a son to take care of (3 months old).
if you were to consider a once a week deal for this one or in the future please accept my willingness to fail http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
7pm EST friday.
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Okay, we've got a 7 EST Friday. Anyone object to that time?
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
what map and settings are you thinking of using?
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Illwinter/Torvak's World map, Indy-6, Magic-75, Random Rare, Rename enabled.
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
So, who all is on the victim list now?
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
i don't think you should do events rare.

It should be noted that playing on a large map already greatly increases the probability of random events greatly. Even on rare, I rarely go turns without 2 or 3 randoms. [ March 11, 2004, 04:35: Message edited by: Norfleet ] |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
normally, I'd be against rare randoms, but Norfleet makes some good points - given the size of the map, and also helping to lessen the chance of completely messing up a game start.
However, I just checked out the map, and in two of the three games I started in a one territory island w/out any link to any other land mass. That would be a game breaker, IMO, given I was a completely non-water nation. The other time I started in Ireland http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |

The problem seems to have subsided with the innovative solution of flagging some of the really crappy starting positions nostart. That shouldn't happen anymore as a result. Game update: The start of the game will have to be delayed an hour to 2000 EST, because the server op won't be back on that day until then and can't start the game until he returns. Once the game has started, however, subsequent days can run at 1900 EST just fine. The server will be brought up tomorrow for the start of sign-in. Would all participating please declare their national pick at this time? I'll be playing Ermor. As usual. |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Well, the server has been brought up for sign-in.
Can we get a call of who's in and what they're going to play? |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
i'll have to bow out.
but if you keep track of these things i think saturday's 9am-4 CST i'm good and Sunday's 9am - 3 i'm usually good |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
how do we connect to the server if we don't have ip and port?

I am in.
I will take one of the races that are left tomorrow before the game starts. I am still playing around with a few races. Added: I think we may get more players if we start on Saturday. [ March 11, 2004, 22:34: Message edited by: navrunner ] |

Also, while we might get more people to sign in if we pushed the game up a day, we might also get more people dropping OUT of the game if it overruns the weekend. I'll keep that under consideration for next game, though. |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Well, here's what we have so far:
Me - Ermor Argitoth - C'tis(?) Tujin - Pangaea or Caelum (still deciding) Navrunner - Unspecified Anyone else in? So far, nobody else has actually uploaded their pretenders yet. Kickoff's at 2000 EST. Don't miss it! |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
i may be a late entry, not looking good but its a possiblity
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
It's a network game I say. I newer played net D2. I think I would like to play. Machaka is my favorite, but Pangaea is my 2nd favorite.

Re: The New Game: The Revenge
If the starting time is at 2000 EST, then I can probably make it. I'll take Arcoscephale and upload my pretender only if I'm going to be able to play.
|

Something is horribly wrong with my router and I won't be able to upload my pretender until i can fix the problem. Be patient, though. Please send me an e-mail at Argitoth@hotmail.com for the time being for any information I might need because I won't be able to return to Shrapnel but I will be able to meet in the #dominions channel in irc.gamesurge.net I already have the port and IP, but I highly suggest we meet on IRC. |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Heh. What an odd Argitoth. He can check his email, and use IRC, but can't get simple-TCP to a single port to work.
That's what you get for using a crappy router, instead of a proper Linux box! Looks like we'll be having quite the party. [ March 12, 2004, 17:25: Message edited by: Norfleet ] |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
I do believe I'll join - or actually, I can't quite believe it. Question though - random rare or common? It will definately make a difference to pretender design. I'll be playing Vanheim.
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Rare. The World map is enormously huge enough that even on rare events, you're probably going to get your full quota of 3 events a round. I always have, even on an Order-3 race, randoms rare race.
What rare *DOES* reduce is the possibility that your temple/lab/home province BURNS TO THE GROUND inside of the first 3 turns of the game, leaving you totally jacked. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And hey, either way works out in *MY* favor. I'm luck 3, and I'm going to burn down all my provinces anyway. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ March 12, 2004, 19:20: Message edited by: Norfleet ] |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
So, here's the present preliminary roll call:
Me: Ermor Tujin: Caelum or Pangaea (undecided) Argitoth: C'tis Condors: Ulm (probably) Navrunner: Unspecified(?) Truper: Vanheim DarkTears: Machaka(?) Graeme: Arco My, regular full house this game. |
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
If tujin chooses caelum, i'll take pangea. Lots of people in the game sounds like fun.
|
Re: The New Game: The Revenge
Pretender uploaded. Further question: has it been customary to use irc or some messenger service to communicate during these epics?

Everybody should make sure they have downloaded the World map prior to starting the game. Either Illwinter's world map OR the Torvak Version are both valid. Don't hold up the kickoff by finding out you don't have the map!

Re: The New Game: The Revenge
I have illwinters world map. How come it does not matter which one, do clients only need the image file?
